Poland vs Bosnia Prediction 25 September 2026
🔊 In the opening round of the UEFA Nations League group stage, Poland host Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a Slavic derby that is sure to be charged with emotion, with neither side willing to give an inch on the ball or on the scoreboard. Today's Bosnia and Herzegovina side are considerably stronger than they used to be and are quite capable of making life difficult even for a more high-profile opponent. Will having Robert Lewandowski in the squad be enough to help Poland get through the group stage?
🔁 We will update this prediction as new information about the teams becomes available. Check back just before the match to make sure you don't miss any important changes.
Poland have historically dominated, but that could all change.
📊 Six years ago, Poland beat Bosnia and Herzegovina twice in the Nations League (3-0 and 2-1), but since then Bosnia have improved considerably, while Poland have been struggling somewhat with a generational transition.
Head-to-head statistics Poland - Bosnia

Poland: Disappointment After Missing Out on the World Cup
Last year Poland were placed in a World Cup qualifying group alongside the Netherlands, Finland, Lithuania and Malta. The White Eagles handled the matches against the weaker sides comfortably, drew both games with the Netherlands 1-1, and finished second to reach the play-offs. There they needed to get past two opponents: Albania and Sweden.
Things got difficult in the Albania match, with the Albanians scoring first and leading at half-time. By the midpoint of the second half, Robert Lewandowski had equalised, and ten minutes later Poland took the lead, took control of the game and advanced to the final play-off match. Against Sweden, the home crowd played their part, and with the score at 2-2 Poland were bracing for extra time - but on 88 minutes Viktor Gyökeres ended Poland's hopes of reaching the World Cup.
Recent form has not been encouraging, with Jakub Urban's side losing to Ukraine 0-2 and drawing with Nigeria 2-2 in friendlies.

Bosnia and Herzegovina: A Strong Showing on the Global Stage
Bosnia and Herzegovina were fortunate in World Cup qualifying, winning two penalty shootouts - first against Wales (1-1 after extra time, 4-2 on penalties) and then against Italy, denying the Azzurri another World Cup appearance (1-1 after extra time, 4-1 on penalties).
At the World Cup itself, the team performed reasonably well in the group stage, losing only to Switzerland while down to ten men (1-4), beating Qatar (3-1), drawing with Canada (1-1) and advancing to the knockout rounds. In the last 16 they faced the host nation, the USA, and although they played with a man advantage in the second half, it was not enough to progress and they were eliminated.
In the Nations League group stage, Bosnia and Herzegovina will also face Sweden and Romania alongside Poland.

Latest news
Poland
❌ Several injured players will be unavailable for the squad, among them Filip Rozga, Kamil Grabara and Adrian Benedyczak.
🔁 Update, 25 September, 7:53 UTC:
- The goalkeeper position has been the biggest problem for Poland during this international window. In addition to Kamil Grabara, who would potentially have been the first choice, Bartłomiej Drągowski has also dropped out. His place has been taken by 22-year-old Sławomir Abramowicz, who has been called up to the national team for the first time. Over the course of four matches in the qualifying cycle, the limited goalkeeping options - with Marcin Bułka as the clear number one - could become a serious issue.
Bosnia & Herzegovina
❌ The team will be without Amar Dedić, as well as their leader and captain Edin Džeko, who is specifically preparing for a farewell match in early October.
🔁 Update - 25 September, 11:09 UTC:
- Goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj will not take part in the current cycle of matches. The Bosnia and Herzegovina first-choice goalkeeper has suffered a recurrence of an injury he originally sustained at the World Cup. Mladen Jurkaš was called up to the squad on an emergency basis. Martin Zlomislić will start against Poland - it will be only his fourth cap for the national team.
Predicted Lineups
📋 Predicted starting XI for Poland: Bułka - Wiśniewski, Bednarek, Kiwior - Cash, Szymański, Zieliński, Zalewski, Puchacz - Świderski, Lewandowski.
📋 Predicted starting XI for Bosnia and Herzegovina: Zlomislić - Omerović, Muharemović, Katić, Kolašinac - Bašić, Gigović, Šunjić, Alajbegović - Tabakovic, Demirović.
⚽ Goals Prediction
Both teams scoring has been the main trend for both sides recently. Poland have scored and conceded in 7 of their last 8 matches. Bosnia and Herzegovina have scored and conceded in 9 of their last 10 matches. We expect both sides to create chances and find the net. Our prediction is Both Teams to Score - Yes, at odds of 1.9*.
🚩 Corner Prediction
Poland have a clear trend towards low corner counts in the Nations League. They have not won more than 4 corners in normal time in 7 of their last 8 matches in the competition. The overall corner total in Poland's Nations League fixtures rarely reaches a high mark. A tight, physical game with a lot of midfield battle is expected. We're backing Total Corners - Under 10.5 at 1.41*.
🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction
Bosnia and Herzegovina have received at least 2 yellow cards in normal time in 10 of their last 11 away matches in the Nations League. In 4 of those matches, the Bosnians picked up 3 or more bookings. Poland play with authority at home but regularly run into defensive problems. When the Poles break down the flanks and push forward on quick attacks, Bosnia's defenders often stop them through tactical fouls, which leads to cautions. The prediction is Total Yellow Cards - Over 3.5, priced at 1.73*.
🚀 Player Stats Bet
Robert Lewandowski, who left Barcelona as a free agent and joined Chicago Fire, has already scored six goals in the early stages of the MLS season. In his side's last five matches, the Polish forward has scored three goals and provided two assists. Age is no barrier for him. We're backing Lewandowski to Score at 1.9*.
😱 Risky Bet
We've put together an interesting option for those looking for a higher price. The main idea behind our prediction is that Bosnia and Herzegovina will put up a fight and make enough of a contest to avoid defeat. On top of that, Poland have not won at home in five consecutive Nations League matches, which could work in Bosnia's favour. Our risky prediction is Bosnia and Herzegovina not to lose and total goals in the 1-3 range, priced at 3.1*.
🎯 Reliable Bet
We are not expecting a high-scoring game at the start of the group stage - rather a tight contest, even for a draw, with an average number of goals. A heavy defeat for either side seems unlikely, and we think there is every chance of a low-scoring match. Our reliable betting option is Total Goals - Under 3.5 at odds of 1.33*.
👀 If the match doesn't go to plan
If the match doesn't follow our main predicted scenario and the visitors fail to make a real contest of it even if they do score, then we'd suggest looking at a clean win for Poland. It's quite possible that home support and the desire to start the group stage with three points will help the Poles get the victory. The odds on a Poland win are 1.69*.

⭐️ Editorial Prediction
Bosnia and Herzegovina have come together well as a team and performed confidently at the World Cup after knocking out Wales and Italy, which shows the team's ability to get results even against opponents with bigger reputations. Bosnia have scored in 14 of their last 15 matches, which gives a clear sense of this side's form. Our main prediction is Bosnia and Herzegovina Team Total - Over 0.5. Predicted score: 1-1.
