Milan vs Atalanta Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 18 October 2026

Details
Key points

📢 One of the central matches of the seventh round of Serie A takes place at San Siro, where Milan host Atalanta. Both sides come into this fixture well below their best, despite expectations of considerably better results before the season began. Milan have noticeably dropped off recently and have given their supporters very little to cheer about in terms of wins. Atalanta's situation is even worse: the Bergamo side are struggling to pick up points and have yet to find their rhythm. Both Milan and Atalanta are aiming to challenge at the top of the table, so neither will want to drop points in this head-to-head.

🔁 This prediction is updated on match day. Keep an eye on the Current News section.

A previously balanced head-to-head has shifted in Atalanta’s favor

📊 Over the last few years, Milan and Atalanta have met 39 times, with the record almost perfectly balanced: the Bergamo side have won 15, Milan 14, and 10 matches have ended in draws. Recently, though, the advantage has clearly shifted towards Atalanta - Milan have gone seven matches in a row without beating them across all competitions, which will be a concern for the Rossoneri's supporters. In the first half of last season the two sides met in Bergamo and shared the points in a 1-1 draw, while the return fixture at San Siro was a far more entertaining affair, ending 2-3.

AC Milan have struggled for consistency, but their quality remains undeniable

Ruben Amorim, who took charge of Milan last summer, has so far been unable to get any consistency out of the side. The Rossoneri keep alternating between impressive performances and poor ones, which regularly costs them points. In the previous round they again failed to give their supporters a win, travelling to Sassuolo and having to settle for a draw in a fairly even contest (1-1). That dropped points meant Milan were unable to close the gap on the league leaders. After six rounds, Amorim's side sit fifth in the Serie A table with 12 points.

That said, Milan go into the upcoming match against Atalanta in good spirits. A few days ago the Rossoneri produced arguably one of their best performances of the current season, comprehensively beating Salzburg away from home in the second round of the Europa League (4-0). What made it particularly pleasing for supporters was that the team not only scored freely but also kept a clean sheet.

At first glance, the match statistics do not suggest such a dominant display by the Italian club. Salzburg actually had slightly more possession (52% to 48%), and the two sides were nearly level on total shots - 15-14 in Milan's favour. However, the Rossoneri had 10 shots on target to their opponents' 2, and created 7 clear chances compared to just 2 for Salzburg. The expected goals figures also back up Milan's superiority - 2.90 xG to 1.02.

Atalanta are gaining momentum after a run of defeats

Atalanta have made a very poor start to the new season. They struggled to find their rhythm, kept dropping points and fell well behind the league leaders. September was particularly bad, with three consecutive defeats. Recently, though, things have gradually begun to improve, and Atalanta have started to show the football their supporters expect. Last weekend they picked up a crucial win over Venezia (3-1), with the outcome effectively settled by the midpoint of the first half, when Atalanta had already built a three-goal lead.

An equally important test came midweek, when they faced Pafos in the Conference League. The Italian club again gave their fans something to cheer about, winning by the same scoreline (3-1). Atalanta's superiority was barely in question: they had 20 shots to Pafos's 8, and the expected goals figures read 3.06 xG to 0.96. They had already settled the contest before the break, going in at half-time 3-0 up. Pafos pulled one back late on, but that consolation goal was unlikely to dampen the mood in the Atalanta camp.

    Latest news

    Milan

❌ Milan have two confirmed absentees. Matteo Gabbia and Alexis Saelemaekers remain sidelined with injuries.

    Atalanta

❌ Atalanta have considerably more squad concerns. Giorgio Scalvini, Isak Hien, Odilon Kossounou and Franck Kessié remain sidelined through injury. Eljif Elmas is suspended, while Raoul Bellanova, Giacomo Raspadori and Kamaldeen Sulemana are doubtful.

    Predicted Lineups

📋 Predicted starting XI for Milan: Maignan - Gila, De Winter, Pavlović, Estupiñán - Chukwueze, Modrić, Rabiot, Cissé - Pulisic - Ramos.

📋 Predicted starting XI for Atalanta: Carnesecchi - Zappacosta, Kolašinac, Kristensen, Bernasconi - Samardžić, Ederson, Gaetano - De Ketelaere, Scamacca, Rowe.

    ⚽️ Goals prediction

Milan continue to struggle defensively against Atalanta. In the last seven head-to-head meetings, in which the Bergamo side have not lost once, Milan have conceded at least one goal every time. Worth noting too is Atalanta's attacking output away from home: they have scored in 11 of their last 12 away matches. With these trends in mind, we are backing Atalanta to score. Odds - 1.47*.

    🚩 Corners prediction

Milan's Serie A matches rarely produce a high number of corners. In 13 of their last 14 games, the total corner count has not exceeded eight. That trend was confirmed in the most recent head-to-head with Atalanta as well: just four corners in total, two apiece. We are therefore going with Total Corners - Under 8.5 at odds of 2.10*.

    🟨 Yellow cards prediction

Atalanta's matches rarely feature many bookings. In 10 of their last 11 outings, referees have shown no more than three yellow cards. Even in more heated games the team maintains notable discipline and avoids unnecessary fouls. We expect that trend to continue against Milan. Our pick is Total Yellow Cards - Under 3.5 at odds of 1.65*.

    🚀 Player statistic bet

Milan fans are increasingly moving on from the departure of Rafael Leão thanks to the performances of Alphadjo Cissè. At just 19, the young talent is making his mark on the wing and is becoming more and more decisive for the team. His most recent standout display came against Salzburg, where he scored a hat-trick. That is why a bet on Alphadjo Cisse to score at odds of 3.15* is worth considering.

    😱 Risky bet

Both Milan and Atalanta are going through an inconsistent spell. Both sides are conceding too much at the back but are capable of hurting opponents at the other end, and they often make up for their defensive shortcomings with important goals. It would not be a surprise to see a repeat of something like the May encounter, when the two sides produced a five-goal thriller. Risk-takers can go for Total Goals - Over 4 at odds of 4.55*.

    🎯 Safe bet

Milan and Atalanta rarely meet without goals: at least two have been scored in 19 of the last 20 head-to-head meetings between these sides. An impressive run that reflects the current state of both teams. For those looking for a reliable option, we suggest Total Goals - Over 1.5 at odds of 1.23*.

👀 If the match takes a different turn

A more closed game cannot be ruled out. Both sides could choose to slow things down and prioritise defensive solidity, particularly after recent European commitments that may have taken a toll on their energy levels. An interesting alternative is Total Goals - Under 2.5 at odds of 2.10*.

*Odds are indicative and may vary depending on the bookmaker.

    ⭐ Editorial Prediction

According to the bookmakers, Milan are favourites for the upcoming match, and there are good reasons for that. The Rossoneri have picked up points more often this season, and they will also be playing at home at San Siro. That said, Atalanta should not be underestimated: the Bergamo side have always given Milan plenty of problems, as the results of recent head-to-head meetings confirm. Both teams also come into this fixture off the back of convincing wins in European competition, so they should be in good spirits. We also expect the two sides to treat fans to a high-scoring game - after all, both teams scored in 6 of their last 7 head-to-head matches. Our main bet is Both Teams to Score - Yes. Predicted score: 2-2.
