Hoffenheim vs Hamburger Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 10 October 2026

Details
Key points

🔊 Hoffenheim and Hamburg come into the fifth matchday level on three points, but the mood around the two clubs is quite different. The hosts have already beaten Stuttgart and scored seven goals in four matches, while Hamburg have managed just two - the worst return in the Bundesliga. Neither defence has been particularly solid either: Hoffenheim have conceded 10 times, Hamburg 13. So the table position matters less here than which side can better exploit the other's defensive weaknesses - and on that front, the advantage lies with the hosts.

The hosts are already familiar with how to take on Hamburg

📊 Last season Hoffenheim beat Hamburg twice - 4-1 at home and 2-1 away. Across 21 head-to-head meetings in total, Hoffenheim have 10 wins to Hamburg's eight, with three draws. At home the balance is even more one-sided: seven wins for the hosts, one draw and two defeats. The historical advantage shouldn't be overstated, but two consecutive wins over this opponent fits well with the current gap between the two sides.

Hoffenheim have their issues, but they still possess plenty of firepower up front

After four rounds, Hoffenheim sit 14th with seven goals scored and ten conceded. Christian Ilzer's side have lost three matches, though those defeats came against Köln, Dortmund and Paderborn, and their win over Stuttgart showed that at home they are capable of causing problems for opponents clearly above Hamburg's level.

Particularly interesting is Hoffenheim's play in transition. According to Bundesliga data, they have scored three goals from just five shots in fast attacks - the best counter-attacking conversion rate in the division. The standout player in Ilzer's squad so far is Adam Daghim, who has been involved in four of the team's seven goals, with two strikes and two assists.

This is a relevant point specifically for the upcoming match. Hamburg will have to do a lot of work without the ball, and when they lose possession there will be space behind their back three for Hoffenheim to exploit on the break. At home, the hosts will look to control the game throughout and wait for their opponents to make mistakes.

Hamburg are struggling in front of goal

Hamburg's situation looks worrying less because of the 13 goals conceded and more because of how little the team offers going forward. In four matchdays they have scored just twice, both in the win over Cologne (2-1). Before that they lost to Dortmund 0-2, to Mainz 0-5 and to Leipzig 0-5.

The win over Cologne improved things slightly, and during the break Hamburg beat Copenhagen 2-0 in a friendly. But even there the problems did not go away: they created almost nothing in the first half, and both goals came late on.

Hamburg struggle particularly when opponents do not give them space. Merlin Polzin's side can put together decent spells in possession, but they rarely create anything dangerous. In that context, it would make little sense for the visitors to open up from the first minute - the more logical approach would be to stay compact, ride out the early pressure and look for chances on the counter. The problem is that Hoffenheim are good at exploiting exactly those situations, so a cautious approach does not guarantee Hamburg a comfortable match either.

    Latest news

    Hoffenheim

💊 The squad situation is relatively settled. Bernardo remains a doubt due to an Achilles problem.

    Hamburger

❌ Patson Daka sustained a muscular thigh injury while on international duty with Zambia, and Albert Grønbaek suffered a thigh injury while away with Denmark. Terem Moffi is not yet training fully due to a knee problem, and Mario Vušković misses the match through suspension.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

In the two head-to-head matches last season, both games went over the average total: four bookings were shown in Sinsheim and six in Hamburg. Given where both clubs currently stand and what three points are worth, a calm match seems unlikely. Hoffenheim will press aggressively after their recent losses, while Hamburg will frequently need to break up attacks, especially if the hosts find space for Daghim and Lemperle. Prediction: Total Yellow Cards - Over 3.5.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

I wouldn't chase the overall total here. Hoffenheim's defence does concede too much, but Hamburg's attacking problems are so obvious that a bet on the hosts' team total makes more sense. Hoffenheim have scored at least twice in three of their four league matches. Hamburg, meanwhile, have already conceded five to Mainz and five to Leipzig, and now take to the pitch without Daka and probably without Moffi. Prediction: Hoffenheim Team Total - Over 1.5 at odds of 1.36*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

In this match I also prefer Hoffenheim's side when it comes to corners. They are at home, have a more productive attack and are capable of regularly working their moves into wide deliveries and shots. Hamburg will have to spend a lot of time sitting deep. If Hoffenheim score first, the scenario becomes even more favourable: the visitors will have to open up, and the hosts will have extra space for their quick attacks. Prediction: Hoffenheim to win the corner count with a handicap of -2. Odds - 1.43*.

*Odds are indicative and may vary between bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editor's Prediction

This isn't a case where the table fully explains the gap between the two sides. Hoffenheim are far from consistent themselves, but they have a clear way of creating chances - quick attacks and exploiting space. Hamburg's problem right now is more serious: the team are barely scoring, and their injury losses narrow the attacking options even further. Hoffenheim's two wins against Hamburg last season only add to the confidence in backing the hosts. Prediction: Hoffenheim to win with a handicap (-1). Correct score: 3-0.
