Roma vs Real Madrid Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 14 October 2026

Key points

📢 One of the most intriguing matches of the second round of the Champions League takes place at the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma host Real Madrid. Both sides have made decent starts to the new season, though not without the occasional slip. Real Madrid are naturally considered the clear favourites here. The Madrid club have long been accustomed to competing for only the most prestigious trophies, and the Champions League is very much their natural habitat. Roma, however, are clearly not prepared to concede superiority to the Spanish giants before a ball has been kicked.

🔁 This prediction is updated on the day of the match. Keep an eye on the Latest News section.

Real Madrid have enjoyed significantly more success than Roma in their head-to-head encounters.

📊 The head-to-head record between Roma and Real Madrid spans nine matches in recent years, and the advantage lies firmly with the Spanish club. Real Madrid have won six of those meetings, while Roma have come out on top just three times. The two sides last met quite some time ago - back in 2018, when they were drawn together in the same Champions League group. Real Madrid gave Roma no chance on either occasion, winning both matches comfortably: 3-0 at home and 2-0 away.

Roma are avoiding defeat, but they're gradually losing momentum.

Roma have made a very decent start to the new season, and third place after six Serie A rounds is the clearest evidence of that. In fact, they topped the table for the first five rounds, making a serious statement about their title ambitions. However, their last two matches have taken the edge off that momentum, and Roma have had to give up top spot to their rivals. Before the international break, they dropped points in a frustrating home draw with Inter, conceding twice to let a 2-0 lead slip to 2-2.

Last weekend Roma again failed to win, this time drawing 0-0 away at Como. That said, it would be hard to call that result a failure. Before the break Roma looked the better side, but on 53 minutes they were reduced to ten men, and the match changed completely after that. In the second half they barely attacked, handed the initiative to the hosts and were forced to focus on defending. In those circumstances, a point can be considered an acceptable outcome.

In the Champions League, Roma also opened with a draw. In the first round they travelled to Fenerbahçe and came away with a 1-1. Playing at Şükrü Saracoğlu is a serious test even for the most experienced sides, and Roma held their own in what was a real cauldron of an atmosphere. They were second-best on the statistics, but they did have chances to take all three points back from Istanbul.

Real are getting the results, but their performances have yet to convince.

The last two seasons have been far from Real Madrid's best. The club failed to win either the La Liga title or the Champions League trophy - a genuinely disappointing outcome for a team accustomed to competing for the biggest prizes every year. In the new La Liga campaign, Los Blancos have not been particularly consistent either: after eight matchdays they have 18 points and sit fourth in the table. That said, the situation is far from critical - they are just one point off second place and six behind the leaders, so there is still plenty of time to close the gap.

Last weekend Real Madrid hosted Villarreal and won 1-0, though it was anything but straightforward. Statistically the two sides were fairly evenly matched, and Madrid also had to see out the match with ten men. They held on and took the three points. The performance was far from ideal, but the result is what matters right now.

In the Champions League, Real Madrid opened with a win. Their opponents were no pushovers - the reigning Serie A champions. Madrid led 2-0 by the 23rd minute, but the match was still very tense as Inter created a host of chances. Even so, the Madrid side won 2-1.

    Latest news

    Roma

❌ Roma have two confirmed absentees ahead of the match. Konstantinos Koulierakis is recovering from a leg injury, while Bryan Cristante remains sidelined with a knee injury. Both are expected to return towards the end of October.

    Real Madrid

❌ Real Madrid have four injury concerns. Raúl Asencio is expected to be sidelined until early January with a leg injury, Éder Militão is recovering from a thigh injury, and Rodrygo remains out with an ACL injury. Ferland Mendy has already returned to training and is nearing a comeback.

    Predicted Lineups

📋 Roma predicted starting XI: Svilar - Mancini, N'Dicka, Hermoso - Rensch, De Roon, Koné, Wesley - Dybala, Soulé - Malen.

📋 Real predicted starting XI: Courtois - Dumfries, Konaté, Huijsen, Cucurella - Trent, Valverde - Diomande, Bellingham, Brahim Díaz - Mbappé.

    ⚽️ Goals prediction

Real Madrid's Champions League matches rarely pass without plenty of goals: in 9 of their last 10 games in the competition, at least three goals were scored. Roma are also showing high scoring output: across six Serie A matchdays, the Romans have scored 14 goals, with only Inter scoring more. In this context, a bet on Total Goals - Over 2.5 is available at 1.46*.

    🚩 Corners prediction

Roma's matches have not been producing many corners lately. In 6 of their last 7 games, no more than nine corners were recorded. There is no particular reason to expect a sharp increase in the upcoming match either. Our bet is Total Corners - Under 9.5 at 2.08*.

    🟨 Yellow cards prediction

Roma have not been especially disciplined this season, picking up an average of 1.8 yellow cards per match in Serie A. Against Real Madrid's technical and quick players, the Romans will likely have to foul more frequently to contain dangerous runs. It is quite possible that some of those fouls will result in bookings. Our bet is Roma Team Total Yellow Cards - Over 1.5.

    🚀 Player stat bet

Kylian Mbappé and goals are virtually inseparable. The Frenchman keeps finding the net, and not infrequently manages braces as well. In eight La Liga matches this season, the forward has scored seven times and provided two assists. Mbappé also got on the scoresheet in the first Champions League matchday, scoring against Inter. Our bet is Kylian Mbappé to Score at 1.62*.

    😱 Risky bet

Roma have looked good this season, including against top opposition. On top of that, 3 of their last 4 matches ended without a winner, so those who like a risk might consider backing the Draw at 4.15*.

    🎯 Safe bet

Real Madrid rarely leave the pitch without scoring, even away from home: they have scored in 22 of their last 24 away matches. Given Madrid's attacking strength and Kylian Mbappé's excellent form, we expect that run to continue even against a solid Roma side. For those who prefer safer bets, Real Madrid to Score is priced at 1.12*.

👀 If the match doesn't go to script

Despite Roma's fine form, it is far from certain that they will be able to produce their best football against the Spanish giants. The pressure in matches like this is enormous, and even a confident side can struggle at the critical moment. The head-to-head record offers little encouragement for the Romans either: in their last four Champions League meetings with Real Madrid, they failed to score on every occasion. It is quite possible that Madrid's defence will again prove too much for the hosts. The alternative bet is Roma to Score: No at 3.95*.

*Odds are approximate and may vary across different bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editor's Prediction

The bookmakers make Real Madrid clear favourites for this match, but we strongly disagree with that assessment. José Mourinho's side are far from their best at the moment, and some of their star players have been a real disappointment: Vinícius Júnior looks nothing like his former self since his change in appearance, while Yan Diomande has yet to justify his €120 million transfer fee. On top of that, Madrid face a difficult trip to the Stadio Olimpico, where Roma are waiting for them having gone unbeaten so far this season. That run is no fluke - it is the natural result of consistent, quality football. Our main bet is therefore Roma not to lose. Predicted score: 2-2.
