Ecuador are also heading into this match with a new manager. After the World Cup, the federation chose not to renew Sebastián Beccacece's contract, and Marcelo Gallardo has taken his place. The Argentine begins his tenure with friendlies against South Korea and Japan, so at this stage establishing cohesion between the lines and getting a feel for his players matters more to him than results at any cost.
At the World Cup, Ecuador first lost to Côte d'Ivoire 0-1, then drew 0-0 with Curaçao before beating Germany 2-1. In the Round of 32 they were knocked out by Mexico, losing 0-2. That said, Gallardo will surely look to maintain an aggressive approach and use the match to take a look at younger players. So I wouldn't expect the visitors to sit completely deep and shut up shop.
