Lech Poznan vs Thun Prediction 20 August 2026
📢 Who will advance to the main stage of the Europa League, and who will have to settle for the Conference League? The play-off round draw gave fans a very interesting tie - a meeting between the champions of Poland and Switzerland from last season. Lech and Thun have come a long way, and now everything will be decided over two legs. A lot will of course depend on the first match in Poznań.
Head-to-Head
📊 Lech Poznań and Thun have never met each other before.
Head-to-head statistics Lech Poznan - Thun

Lech Poznan Team Overview
As in the previous season, Lech earned the chance to fight for a place in the UEFA Champions League group stage thanks to winning the Polish title. However, as a year earlier, they could not go far in the main European competition: in the second qualifying round, the team sensationally lost to Aarhus, throwing away a three-goal lead in the home leg.
Now, though, the Polish club have an excellent chance of reaching the UEFA Europa League group stage. Their confidence should be boosted in particular by the previous qualifying round, where they got past Klaksvik without much trouble, winning 6-0 on aggregate. Last weekend the team did not play - they were given extra rest from league duties to prepare better for this crucial tie. Their start to the Polish championship has been positive: after three rounds, Lech have seven points and sit third in the table.

Thun Team Overview
Thun were one of the biggest surprises of last season, sensationally winning the Swiss championship for the first time in their 128-year history. The club had little international experience: before the current European campaign, the team had taken part in European competition just five times. So few expected the Swiss side to seriously challenge for a place in the Champions League group stage. And indeed the team quickly lost that chance: in the second qualifying round, Thun were beaten by Dinamo Zagreb (3:4 on aggregate). However, in the third round of the Europa League the team showed their potential and got past Icelandic side Víkingur (5:3 on aggregate), despite losing away from home.
As for their domestic results, Thun made a poor start - just three points from nine and a position in the lower half of the table. That said, it is worth noting that Thun did not field their first-choice lineup in any of those matches, with all their energy directed at the European campaign. Last weekend Thun also played their first-round Swiss Cup match against amateur side Saxon-Sports (6:0), so that game required no significant expenditure of energy either.

⚽️ Goals prediction
It's hard to ignore that almost all of Thun's official matches this season have been high-scoring: at least three goals were scored in 7 of their 8 matches. The only exception was the first meeting with Dinamo Zagreb (1:1), although even that game had chances for more goals. So it's well worth backing total goals over 2.5 at odds of 1.80*.
🚩 Corners prediction
Both teams rely on attacking football, so the upcoming match should produce dangerous chances at both ends. In that kind of game there are usually plenty of corners too. Total corners over 9.5 is available at odds of 1.75*.
🟨 Yellow cards prediction
A high number of yellow cards is one of the defining features of Thun's matches in this season's European campaign. In all four matches involving the Swiss club, referees showed at least four bookings, and the return leg against Vikingur saw as many as eight "yellows". In that context, it makes sense to consider a bet on total yellow cards over 3.5.

⭐️ Editor's Pick
According to the bookmakers, Lech are considered the clear favourites for the first match, which is largely due to their home advantage and the higher status of the Polish championship. However, Thun should certainly not be underestimated: the Swiss club came very close to eliminating Zagreb's Dinamo in the Champions League, and the Croatian side are clearly no weaker than the Poles. Even away from home, the team are unlikely to play purely defensively and will look to create chances going forward. Our main bet is Thun to score. This betting option has come in in 9 of the team's last 10 matches. Expected score - 2:1.
