Marseille vs Olympiacos Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 15 October 2026

Key points

πŸ”Š For Marseille, the match against Olympiacos is a test of whether the crisis is over. Bruno GΓ©nΓ©sio's side ended a run of five consecutive defeats - which included their opening Europa League fixture - only last weekend at Troyes. The Greeks arrive on the back of three straight wins, but none of them were comfortable: each was by a single goal, and in the derby against Panathinaikos, Olympiacos played the final 20-plus minutes with ten men. Whose run is the real thing?

    Head-to-Head

πŸ“Š The last four head-to-head meetings were all played in a Champions League group stage, and each was decided by a single goal. In the 2011/12 season, both teams won away from home. In Piraeus, Argentine Lucho GonzΓ‘lez put Marseille ahead. At the VΓ©lodrome, Greek forward Giannis Fetfatzidis scored with eight minutes to go. In autumn 2020, the points stayed with the hosts. Olympiacos broke the deadlock in stoppage time through Egyptian striker Ahmed Hassan. In the return fixture, the Greeks took the lead, but Dimitri Payet converted two penalties to give Marseille a comeback victory.

Marseille: Struggling Through a Rough Patch and Grinding Out a Win

Marseille made a bright start to the season but quickly lost momentum. They thrashed Strasbourg 4-0 in the opening round of Ligue 1, then had to wait until October for their next win. The most painful evening came in Istanbul, where they opened their league phase campaign. Marseille held Beşiktaş until half-time at 1-1, with the goal coming from 20-year-old Keylian Abdallah. In the second half the Turkish side scored three times in 25 minutes to win 4-1. Marseille currently sit in the lower half of both tables. In Ligue 1 they are 13th, eight points behind leaders Monaco. In the Europa League league phase they are 32nd out of 36.

The 2-0 win at Troyes was harder than the scoreline suggests. The hosts hit the woodwork on more than one occasion, and goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange saved all three shots on target. Marseille took the lead just after half-time when Amine Harit volleyed home a cross from Emerson. In stoppage time, Himad Abdelli converted a penalty. Genesio was candid about the performance: "It was far from our best match, but we won it." The manager reserved his praise for the younger players - for 21-year-old Malian Nouhoun Kamissoko, it was his first start for the first team.

    Olympiacos: Alguacil and Narrow Wins

All four matches under Imanol Alguacil have been decided by a single goal. The Spaniard was appointed on 10 September as a replacement for JosΓ© Luis Mendilibar. Before that, Alguacil had spent 330 matches in charge of Real Sociedad, winning the Copa del Rey with the club. His debut did not go well: the Greeks lost at home to OFI Crete (0-1). In the Europa League in Piraeus, Polish side Jagiellonia opened the scoring. Mexican Armando GonzΓ‘lez equalised before half-time, and Ukrainian Roman Yaremchuk secured all three points six minutes from the end (2-1).

Olympiacos's main strength is their defence: in six Superleague rounds they have conceded just two goals. That defensive solidity was also the foundation of their derby win over Panathinaikos (1-0). Defender Panagiotis Retsos headed home a flick-on from midfielder Remo Freuler on 34 minutes. In the second half, Manolis Saliakas picked up a second yellow card, but Alguacil's side held the lead with ten men. For Panathinaikos, it was their first defeat of the current season. Their derby opponents still sit above them in the table, though: 15 points to Olympiacos's 13, with the latter third.

    Latest news

    Olympique Marseille

❓ Genesio cannot count on two of his regular starters. Centre-back DΓ©rek Cornelius has a rare thigh injury. According to the manager after the Troyes match, the Canadian is out until the winter break. Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile HΓΈjbjerg picked up a muscle injury on international duty. Genesio believes the Dane is unlikely to be fit in time for this week's matches. On the positive side, Amine Gouiri, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Tochi Nwandu all played at Troyes after returning from injury. Timothy Weah could also come back into the squad - the American served his suspension for the red card against PSG in the previous round. Camissoko came off in the second half at Troyes due to cramp rather than injury.

    Olympiacos

❓ Algualcil's biggest loss is Moroccan forward Ayoub El Kaabi. He broke his leg in early September in the match against Volos. Press reports estimate his recovery will take at least seven months. El Kaabi has been replaced in the UEFA squad list by Yaremchuk, who shares the central striking role with GonzΓ‘lez. Forward Marius Muandimadji started the derby but was not included in the Europa League squad. Midfielder Santiago Scipioni was also left out. Portuguese player Gustavo SΓ‘ has returned from injury and was named in the derby squad.

    Predicted Lineups

πŸ“‹ Predicted starting XI for Marseille:  De Lange - Weah, Egan-Riley, Aguerd, Emerson - Kamissoko, Abdelli, Angel Gomes - Paixao, Gouiri, Harit.

πŸ“‹ Predicted starting XI for Olympiacos: Ortega - Saliakas, Retsos, Pirola, Tiknizyan - Freuler, Puerta - Jota Silva, Chiquinho, Fortounis - Gonzalez.

    ⚽️ Goals Prediction

Fewer than four goals have been scored in 16 of Olympiacos's last 18 away matches. In the Super League, the Greeks' games have been extremely low-scoring: just seven goals combined with opponents since the start of the season. Marseille have their own ceiling of two goals - they have not exceeded that in six matches in a row, including their win at Troyes. We expect a tight game that falls short of four goals. Our bet is Total Goals - Under 3.5.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Marseille have delivered more than five corners in just one of their last nine matches. Across their last ten official matches, the French side have won 41 corners to their opponents' 53. Olympiacos, by contrast, tend to impose themselves in the opposition's penalty area - over the same span they have earned 78 corners while conceding only 28. In the Europa League, Jagiellonia did not win a single corner at Piraeus, while Alguacil's side earned 13. We expect Marseille to fall short of six corners. Our bet is Marseille Team Total Corners - Under 5.5.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Referees have shown 55 yellow cards across Olympiacos's last ten matches, with 33 of those going to their opponents. The peak came in the derby, where Panathinaikos received seven bookings and Alguacil's side three. Marseille have accumulated 40 yellow cards over the same span, with 18 of those going to the French side themselves. More than three bookings have been shown in 7 of the last 10 matches for each team. We expect at least four yellow cards in this one. Our bet is Total Yellow Cards - Over 3.5.

    πŸ“Œ Editorial Prediction

Matches at the VΓ©lodrome are rarely dull. In 6 of their last 7 games there, Marseille have both scored and conceded. At home, their attack has been on the scoresheet for even longer - 13 matches in a row. Even Paris and PSG left Marseille with a win in September, but not a clean sheet. Olympiacos bring their own run to the table: the Greeks have scored in each of their last ten away matches. We expect both sequences to continue for one more game. The bet is Both Teams to Score - Yes. Predicted score: 1-1.
