    Benfica Lisbon Team Overview

Benfica started the season with a setback in the Europa League qualifying - a defeat to St. Gallen (1:2) in Switzerland. But the second leg showed how heavily the team rely on the home factor at Estádio da Luz: at home, the Portuguese won 5:0. In the next round, Benfica also settled the tie in the first leg, thrashing Hearts (6:1). In the return match in Edinburgh, the team drew 1:1 and comfortably secured their place in the play-offs.

The last league match only reinforced the impression of the Eagles' attacking form. Away from home, the team demolished Casa Pia (7:0), with Vangelis Pavlidis scoring a hat-trick. The Greek remains the main source of goals at the start of the season: he already has nine to his name.

That said, Pavlidis is not the only factor. Marco Silva now has significantly more options in attack than at the start of qualifying. After the World Cup, Richard Ríos, Dodi Lukébakio, Andreas Schjelderup and other players who needed to find their form gradually worked their way into the squad. In the second leg against Hearts, Marco Silva was already able to rotate his lineup, and in the last match against Casa Pia, Pavlidis and Rafa Silva were substituted after around an hour - the manager had clearly factored in the upcoming European match in advance.

    AGF Aarhus Team Overview

Aarhus came into the play-off with a very different scoring record. The Danish side began their European campaign in the Champions League qualifiers, first getting past Lech. In the next round they beat Sabah at home (2:1), but the return leg in Azerbaijan turned into a disaster as they lost 0:4. Aarhus were eventually eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers and continued in the Europa League.

Problems carried over into the domestic league. After three rounds, Aarhus have not won a single game: their most recent result was a defeat to Viborg (1:2). So, heading into the trip to Lisbon, Jakob Poulsen's side have just two points from three Superliga rounds.

The defensive reliability is a particular concern. In their last two matches the Scandinavians have conceded six goals. That said, Aarhus's attack should not be written off. In the first match against Sabah the Danes scored twice, and the team has continued to score regularly in the league. The problem is that even in the return leg against Benfica, Poulsen's side will have to spend far more time without the ball, which means repeating the scoring output of the home match against Sabah will be considerably harder.

    Latest news

    Benfica Lisbon

❌ Benfica's injury situation is not ideal, however. Fredrik Aursnes remains sidelined with a thigh muscle problem followed by illness. He has not yet started a match in the first team this season, so the midfielder's absence should not change the team's playing model, but it does reduce the options in central midfield. Otherwise, Marco Silva has significantly more rotation options available.

    AGF Aarhus

✅ There is a positive side for Aarhus: regardless of the outcome of the two matches against Benfica, the team has already secured a place in the main stage of the Conference League. So there is no psychological pressure of the "lose and you're out of Europe" kind for the Danish side. But the level of the opposition at this stage is significantly higher than in the previous rounds.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Benfica should have the ball for most of the match, so the main burden of fouls may fall on Aarhus. The Danes will have to defend a lot, block zones between the lines and stop the hosts' attacks with fouls. At the same time, Benfica don't need to turn the match into a physical battle. The Portuguese can control the tempo through possession. Prediction: Aarhus total yellow cards over 1.5. This bet came in in 4 of the last 5 matches of Poulsen's side.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

Here the most logical bet looks to be on Benfica's scoring. The Portuguese scored five against St. Gallen, six against Hearts and seven against Casa Pia. Aarhus, on the other hand, have conceded six goals in their last two matches. Against Benfica the Danes will have to defend significantly deeper, and Pavlidis and his teammates have already shown they can quickly exploit space in the penalty area. So the prediction is: Benfica total goals over 2.5 at 1.66*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

It is clear that the Lisbon side will have a huge territorial advantage. Aarhus will have to defend for most of the time, while the hosts will regularly deliver the ball into wide areas and look for Pavlidis with passes into the box. At the same time, the Danes are unlikely to give up on counter-attacks entirely, so they should earn a few corners as well. An overall figure of around 10-11 corners looks realistic. Prediction: total corners over 9.5 at 1.84*. This option came in in 14 of Benfica's last 16 matches.

*Odds are indicative and may vary depending on the bookmaker.

    ⭐ Editor's Pick

Benfica go into the first match in significantly more convincing form. AGF lost heavily to Sabah away from home and have not won any of their three league matches. The key question is how long the Danish side will be able to stay compact in front of their penalty area. If Benfica score an early goal, the scenario could quickly turn into a rout. Final bet: Benfica handicap (-1.5). Correct score prediction: 4:0.
