Key points

📢 How will Cristian Chivu's latest meeting with his former club go? The two sides have made very different starts to the new Serie A season. After five rounds, Inter sit second in the table with 13 points, while Parma are down near the bottom with just 4. On the face of it, the picture is clear: the Nerazzurri are considerably stronger and will be playing at home at the Giuseppe Meazza. However, events at Parma during the international break add an extra element of intrigue. The visitors made changes to their coaching staff, which means the players will almost certainly be looking to impress the new man in charge and prove they deserve a place in the starting XI.

Inter are firmly in control of their clash with Parma.

📊 In recent years, Inter have been clearly dominant in head-to-head meetings with Parma. Across 33 matches, the Nerazzurri have won 18 times, while the Crociati have come out on top on just 6 occasions. The remaining 9 meetings ended in draws. Last season, the Milan side gave their opponents no chance whatsoever: both fixtures ended with the same scoreline, 2-0, in favour of the reigning Italian champions.

Inter keep picking up points, but they consistently make life difficult for themselves in matches.

🔵 Inter have left a mixed impression so far this season. On one hand, they have picked up 13 points from five matches and sit second in Serie A, separated from leaders Roma only on goal difference. On the other hand, almost every win has come the hard way. In three of their five matches, the reigning Italian champions have had to come from two goals down. What is remarkable is that they have managed to recover every time - twice going on to win, with the other match ending in a draw. The character is clearly there, but you cannot keep relying on comebacks like that. The international break was probably welcome for Inter's coaching staff, giving them time to work out why the team keeps starting matches so poorly and repeatedly having to correct their own mistakes.

⚫ Their last match before the break followed exactly the same pattern. Inter travelled to Roma - the very side currently top of the table - and were 2-0 down at half-time. But they came out fighting straight after the interval, pulling one back on 46 minutes. In the second half Inter were noticeably better, took almost complete control of the game and eventually levelled at 2-2. In fact, given how dominant they were after the break, Inter could even have won it. But considering how badly they played in the first half, a draw away at a direct title rival is not a bad result.

Parma’s poor run of form has resulted in a managerial change.

🟡 Last season Parma looked assured enough to finish 13th in Serie A, well clear of any relegation trouble. It seemed the Crusaders had built a decent foundation for the future, but something has gone badly wrong since the new campaign began. The team have been struggling badly from the off, and four points from five matches is a generous return for the football they have been playing. It is no surprise that the club decided to act decisively. On 27 September, Parma announced the dismissal of head coach Carlos Cuesta. The two parties terminated the contract by mutual consent, with the club's official statement citing a lack of prospects for further collaboration within the framework of the sporting project. Alberto Gilardino will now take charge of the team.

🔵 What makes it particularly curious is that Cuesta left immediately after a win. In their last match before the international break, Parma beat Genoa 2-1 at home and climbed out of the relegation zone as a result. The result, though, was considerably better than the performance. The Crusaders again failed to impress, and at various points during the match the opponents looked the more likely winners. Parma managed to make the most of their limited chances, but that kind of victory was unlikely to convince the club's leadership that the team was heading in the right direction.

    Latest news

    Inter Milano

❌ Inter have one confirmed absence ahead of the match: John Stones is still recovering from a thigh injury and is expected to return around mid-October.

    Parma

❌ Parma have three players unavailable. Pontus Almqvist is out with a shin injury, while Dominik Drobnjič is sidelined with a broken arm. Both are not expected to return until November. Hans Nicolussi-Caviglia is still recovering from a hernia and is expected back on the pitch around mid-October.

    ⚽️ Goals Prediction

Head-to-head meetings between Inter and Parma rarely produce goal fests: in the last 14 matches between these two sides, more than four goals have never been scored. There is little reason to expect that trend to change sharply now. After their change of manager, Parma will almost certainly look to be as cautious as possible and pack their defence. Our bet is Total Goals - Under 4.5 at odds of 1.40*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Inter will almost certainly dominate and press on the opposition half, and in that kind of game corners tend to mount up. The head-to-head statistics support this: in their last six home matches against Parma, the Nerazzurri have won more than seven corners. We are backing Inter Milan Team Total Corners - Over 7.5 at odds of 1.89*.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Constant pressure from Inter will demand enormous physical effort from the visitors, and containing the hosts' attacks through disciplined defending alone will not be easy. Parma will regularly have to get into challenges, break up dangerous moves and resort to tactical fouls. It could become particularly difficult in the second half, when fatigue sets in and keeping pace with Inter's quick players gets harder and harder. Our bet is Parma to receive more yellow cards than Inter.

    🚀 Player Statistics Bet

Lautaro Martínez continues to maintain an extremely high level of productivity both at club level and with the Argentina national team. In this season's Serie A, the striker has scored four goals in four matches. During the international break he kept up that form too: across three matches for the national team, Lautaro scored two goals and provided two assists, confirming he is in excellent shape. A bet on Lautaro Martínez to Score is available at odds of 1.49*.

    😱 Risky Bet

Last season's head-to-head fixtures were not particularly high-scoring: both matches ended with two goals apiece. The upcoming meeting could follow a similar pattern, given that Parma are unlikely to venture out of their own half very often and will focus on a tight defensive shape. Risk-takers may want to consider Total Goals - Under 2.5 at odds of 3.45*.

    🎯 Safe Bet

If you are looking for a more reliable option, consider Parma Team Total - Under 1.5 Goals at odds of 1.11*. The Crusaders' attack is clearly struggling at the moment, particularly away from home: the last time they scored more than one goal in an away match was back in early January. Against Inter at the Giuseppe Meazza, there is little reason to expect a sudden improvement in their scoring.

👀 If the Match Goes the Other Way

Of course, the opposite scenario cannot be ruled out - a match with plenty of goals. If Inter score early, Parma could well fall apart and start conceding one after another. In that case, a bet on Inter Milan Team Total - Over 3.5 Goals at odds of 2.49* could come in.

*Odds are indicative and may vary across different bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editorial Prediction

The bookmakers do not expect Inter to have any serious trouble in this match, and their reasoning is easy to follow. The gap in class between the two sides is plain to see. That said, we would not rush to back a heavy defeat for Parma. For all the Crusaders' problems, they tend to defend in an organised fashion and rarely allow opponents to score freely. The head-to-head history also does not point towards a goal fest: the last time the Milan club scored more than three against Parma was back in 2012, when they won 5-0. Our main bet is therefore Inter Milan Team Total - Under 3.5. We expect the final score to be 2-0.
