PSG vs Slovan Bratislava Prediction 9 September 2026

Details
The main thing

🔊 Yaya Touré became the first African coach to lead a club into the UEFA Champions League league phase. He took charge of Slovan in the summer having never previously managed as a head coach, and guided them through three qualifying rounds. The opponents for his debut could hardly be more daunting: the reigning champions. That said, the Parisians are currently 14th in Ligue 1 and have gone four consecutive official matches without a win.

    Head-to-Head

📊 The two sides have no previous official meetings. Their last shared stage began in Glasgow in September 2024, when Slovan lost 5-1 to Celtic. Things look different in Bratislava now: Turé has replaced Vladimir Weiss, who had been at the club for years, and has gone unbeaten in his first ten matches. The opponent is also a different proposition from that autumn. Back then, the Slovaks were travelling to face a side in decent form; now they face a champion who has not won in a month.

    Slovan Bratislava Team Overview

Slovan are the reigning Slovak champions, but the club took a risk last summer that few expected. Vladimir Weiss was replaced by Yaya Touré, for whom this is his first job as a head coach. Before arriving in Bratislava, the Ivorian had worked as an assistant - under Andrei Talalaev at Akhmat, and then under Roberto Mancini. The risk paid off straight away: in qualifying, Slovan eliminated Tbilisi's Iberia (3-1 on aggregate), then Swedish side Mjällby (4-1), and in the play-offs edged past Celje in extra time.

Touré's side have been equally solid away from home, going through their first ten matches of the season without a defeat - eight wins and two draws. The level of opposition in qualifying was one thing, but now they face the Champions League holders for the first time.

    Latest news

    Paris Saint-Germain

❌ Enrique has a near-perfect squad available for the European fixture. Nuno Mendes is back: the Portuguese full-back picked up a red card in the Trophée des Champions against Lens, served a three-match domestic ban and missed the games against Rennes, Lille and Monaco as a result. The suspension was internal, so he is available for the Champions League. It means the defence will take the field in its familiar shape for the first time this season. João Neves, who missed the penultimate Ligue 1 round through illness, has already returned and played against Monaco. The only remaining question is in goal: Matvey Safonov holds the position, but scrutiny of his performances grows with every goal he concedes, while Lucas Chevalier has been waiting on the bench for the third round in a row.

    🔁 Update - 9 September, 5:45 UTC:

    • According to L'Équipe, Luis Enrique is considering changes to his front three after an inconsistent start to the season. In the opening matches, PSG's attack most often featured the trio of Kvaratskhelia, Akliouch and Doue. Enrique then gave Dembélé starts, experimented with Akliouch on the right of the attack or in behind the striker, and also started Ferran Torres as the number nine.

    🔁 Update - 9 September, 11:30 UTC:

    • PSG's press office has published the squad list for the match. It includes the full pool of players used by the club this season. The only absentee is third-choice goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni, who has picked up an injury. His place in the squad has been taken by 17-year-old Moroccan youth-team goalkeeper Adam Mouak.

    🔁 Update - 9 September, 12:45 UTC:

    • L'Équipe report that the most likely attacking combination for PSG is a front three of Kvaratskhelia on the left, Ferran Torres on the right and Dembélé as the central striker. Paris have not used this particular combination at any point this season.

    Slovan Bratislava

❓ Mykola Kuharevich has not been included in the squad for the tournament: the Ukrainian forward picked up an injury on 11 August in qualifying and has not played since. Alasana Yirajang is a doubt - the Gambian left the pitch on Saturday before the hour mark, and the club has provided no details on his condition. Toure have no suspended players.

    Predicted Lineups

📋 Predicted starting XI for PSG: Safonov - Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Nuno Mendes - João Neves, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz - Doué, Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia.

📋 Predicted starting XI for Slovan: Takáč - Crúž, Wimmer, Bajrič, Blackman - Pokorný, Ignatenko, Ibrahim - Barseghyan, Mustafić - Šporar.

    ⚽️ Goals Prediction

PSG have conceded in seven consecutive matches, a run that stretches back through the UEFA Super Cup and into their poor start in Ligue 1. Slovan, for their part, almost never fail to score: they have found the net in 14 of their last 15 away matches and in 12 of their last 13 overall. The gap in quality is enormous, but clean sheets simply are not happening for the champions right now. The bet is Slovan to Score: Yes at 2.75*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Across their last ten official matches, PSG have averaged 6.5 corners per game, while their opponents have averaged just 1.9 - roughly three times fewer. Slovan's numbers are similar: 6.0 for themselves against 2.4 for their opponents. The difference is that Slovan's own corners have come at home, where they naturally hold the ball, whereas in Paris they will be defending. And corners tend to pile up against a deep defensive block. The bet is PSG Team Total Corners - Over 6.5.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

The appointed referee is Ukrainian official Mykola Balakin - an unfamiliar name for PSG, and one with limited Champions League experience. Over their last ten official matches, PSG have averaged 1.4 yellow cards per game, with their opponents averaging 1.8. Slovan's figures are 1.3 for themselves and 1.6 for their opponents. On average, a PSG match produces 3.2 cards and a Slovan match 2.9, which puts the combined figure at around three. The bet is Total Yellow Cards - Over 2.5.

    🚀 Player Statistic Bet

Marquinhos has unexpectedly become PSG's top scorer in Ligue 1. He has scored in each of the last two PSG matches in a row - in the 90+5th minute at Lille and in the 31st minute against Monaco - and both goals came from crosses. An opponent that sits deep in their own box will give the Brazilian exactly what he needs: a stream of set pieces and deliveries. The bet is Marquinhos to Score.

    😱 Risky Bet

Slovan with a +2.5 handicap is priced at 3.09. The Slovaks have not lost by more than two goals in 50 consecutive matches, and in 28 consecutive away matches. There is also the PSG angle: they have scored more than three goals in just one of their last 18 matches. The risk is genuine but the bet is interesting - a big home win over the underdogs would be the quickest way for Enrique to change the conversation, and for the first time this season his squad is fully available. The bet is Slovan - Handicap +2.5 at 2.39*.

    🎯 Reliable Bet

PSG score in the second half almost without fail: in 12 of their last 13 home matches and in 8 of their last 9 Champions League matches. The new season has not broken that run - both at Rennes and at Lille, PSG came back into the game in the second half. By the 60th minute the visitors will sit even deeper, and Enrique's bench is longer than Touré's entire squad. The odds are minimal, but so are the doubts. The bet is PSG to Score in the 2nd Half at 1.12*.

👀 If the Match Goes Off Script

The likely scenario is a comfortable home win, with a goal for the visitors and no rout. The one thing that changes it is an early second PSG goal. At that point Slovan would push forward out of desperation, start to fall apart at the back, and the markets would shift towards Total Goals - Over 4.5 and a heavy home win. Keep those in mind for in-play if PSG score twice before the half-hour mark.

*Odds are indicative and may vary across different bookmakers.

    📌 Editorial Prediction

PSG have scored more than three goals in just 1 of their last 18 matches, and at home in just 1 of their last 8. Slovan have the same boundary from the other side: fewer than five goals have been scored in their matches in 35 of the last 36. Away from home, the Slovaks' numbers are even more consistent - 17 of 18. We have no doubts about the hosts' quality, but we don't believe in a seven-goal rout. The bet is Total Goals - Under 4.5 at 1.57*. Predicted score: 3-1.
