πŸ”Š NAVI head into the EWC after an unusually long break. Following their early exit from the Cologne Major, the team disappeared from official servers for nearly two months, intentionally skipping the BLAST Bounty event. Their last appearance was a defeat to G2, which saw the β€œBorn to Win” squad miss out on the Major playoffs. In stark contrast, 3DMAX have had a busy summer, playing a packed schedule with results ranging from total collapse to flashes of impressive CS. Still, the gulf in class between these sides is clear-and if NAVI have made good use of their preparation time, they should be favorites to advance to the next round. More on that in our prediction.

    Head-to-Head

The head-to-head record between these teams is quite intriguing. Over the past few years, they've faced off four times, with the series tied at 2-2. At the previous EWC, the French side actually knocked NAVI out 2-1, and repeated the feat at the ESL Pro League in the fall. Their most recent clash came in March, with makazze now in the lineup. NAVI got their revenge with a 2-1 victory: they dismantled 3DMAX 13-5 on Dust2, took a heavy 5-13 loss on Inferno, and then wrapped things up with another dominant 13-5 on Ancient. Not a single map in that series was close.

    Natus Vincere Team Overview

It’s tough to sum up the current NAVI side in just one word. This spring, they truly came alive: lifting the ESL Pro League trophy, reaching the BLAST Rivals final, and then clinching IEM Atlanta. In Atlanta, NAVI took down Vitality and swept GamerLegion in the final. W0nderful capped it all off by earning the first MVP award of his career. But then came Cologne. At the biggest event of the first half of the year, NAVI started to falter: they were swept aside by Spirit, bounced back with wins over Legacy and The MongolZ, but fell short against Falcons and G2, missing out on the playoffs altogether despite being Atlanta champions.

Now Aleksib and his squad have had almost two months to work with B1ad3 without the constant grind of travel and official matches. That’s arguably the most intriguing storyline heading into EWC. NAVI have long struggled on certain maps, where their T sides get bogged down, players disappear from the server one by one, and it’s left to either b1t or w0nderful to bail them out. After this extended bootcamp, excuses are running thin. The real question is how quickly they can shake off the rust after such a long break. Bo1 isn’t exactly the ideal format for a team that hasn’t played officials in nearly two months.

    3DMAX Team Overview

3DMAX have had a turbulent summer. Over the past three months, the team have managed to win only about a third of their matches, and their campaign in China ended abruptly after being dismantled by FaZe-falling 5-13 on Ancient and 1-13 on Anubis. Things didn’t improve much at BLAST Bounty, though they did make it to the playoffs. On LAN, they drew MOUZ and refused to roll over: they took Dust2, pushed Nuke to a marathon 18-22 loss, and finally ran out of steam on Inferno.

The French squad have enough experience not to be intimidated by the NAVI name-especially considering they’ve already beaten them twice in the past year. But there’s another side to the coin: this 3DMAX roster are highly inconsistent, and their macro play can sometimes look more like chaos than a clear strategy. In a Bo1, in-game adaptation will be crucial. 3DMAX always give it their all, but you never quite know if it’ll be the day they upset a favorite or just scrape together a handful of rounds.

    ⭐ Editorial Prediction

NAVI boast the bigger names and have enjoyed a lengthy preparation period, so after two months of hard work, we should finally see a team that doesn’t spend half the map recalling how to play officials. 3DMAX, though, are a tricky opponent: they’ve punished NAVI twice in the past year and, just before EWC, managed to take a map off MOUZ and nearly snatched a second. Still, this lineup doesn’t inspire much confidence.

After an extended bootcamp, we’re putting our faith in B1ad3 and the strategies NAVI have had time to develop during the break. Our prediction: Natus Vincere to win with a -4.5 round handicap. NAVI have the edge in quality, and if this long pause hasn’t helped Aleksib and his squad get their game together, some tough questions about potential roster changes will surely follow EWC.
