Brazil: Brazil LSB
Brazil

The Liga Super Basketball (LSB) in Brazil is a regional basketball organisation and competition promoter based in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Founded in 2007 by basketball coaches and administrators, the LSB has grown into one of the largest independent basketball bodies in the country’s amateur and age‑group scene. It runs leagues and tournaments across multiple divisions and age categories, including youth, adult, and masters (older age) groups, both for men and women.

Originally created to develop basketball at the grassroots level in Rio de Janeiro, the LSB quickly expanded its reach. By 2018, it organised more than 700 games in a year across 16 municipalities, involving more than 130 teams and nearly 2,000 registered players. Its activities reflect a broad commitment to competitive play beyond traditional professional leagues.

In addition to competitions, the LSB also fields teams in larger tournaments. Since 2014, it has put together a men’s adult representative selection that competes against other organisations. It also established a professional women’s team — LSB RJ/Sodiê Doces — which competed in Brazil’s top women’s basketball league, the Liga de Basquete Feminino (LBF). The club’s participation marked the return of professional women’s basketball to Rio de Janeiro after several years.

While not part of Brazil’s official national league pyramid like the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) or Liga Ouro, the LSB plays a significant role in the wider basketball community. It helps develop players, coaches and competition structures at regional levels and contributes to Brazil’s basketball culture and diversity.
