Manchester United’s summer move for Bryan Mbeumo has been threatened after it was reported that Tottenham joined the race this week.
On a normal day, Spurs joining Man United wouldn’t be something United’s hierarchy would bat an eye about, but the Red Devils’ current situation (no European football) coupled with Spurs’ new boss, Thomas Frank, who formerly worked with the forward at Brentford, has given the transfer battle a different chill.
Manchester United are seriously in need of a forward, as they are expected to lose the likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Alejandro Garnacho this summer, so bringing Mbeumo to Old Trafford looks like a MUST deal for the Red Devils.
Some reports have suggested that the Cameroon international hasn’t ruled out a chance to work with his former boss at Tottenham, plus the opportunity to play in the Champions League, something Manchester United cannot afford next season.

Bryan Mbeumo fits into everything Ruben Amorim wants for the RAM, so we wouldn’t be too sure the Red Devils will walk out of the transfer race without a fight.
However, below are some of the top names we think can have a similar impact as the Brentford forward, who scored 20 goals and provided 7 assists in 38 Premier League matches in the 2024/25 season.
Amad Diallo - Manchester United
The Manchester United forward played most of his matches last season as United’s RAM and didn’t fail to impress his boss and fans. Amad may have missed a few matches due to injury issues, but he was Manchester United’s top-three goal contributors (18) behind Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho.
If he stays injury-free, Ruben Amorim will be happy he has a player like Amad at his disposal, thanks to his creativity up upfront and his savagery at the back.
Alejandro Baena - Villarreal
The Spanish youngster made some waves last season at Villarreal and helped the Yellow Submarines with his creativity and fluidity to secure Champions League football. The 23-year-old is a threat down the RAM position and also versatile, as he can play as a supporting striker.
Baena provided nine assists and scored seven goals in 32 matches. As you can see, he’s not prone to injury, which means Amorim can rely on his fitness. He can be as effective for Manchester United as Mbeumo.
Ismaila Sarr - Crystal Palace
If Crystal Palace was a difficult nut to crack last season, it was partly due to Ismaila Sarr’s threat upfront. He plays the RAM position for the Eagles and was as much of a threat as Eberechi Eze.
The Senegal international, 27, created 17 big chances, not too far behind Mbeumo, and also played every league game last term, which means he’s not an injury-prone lad. Sarr scored eight goals and provided six assists in the league last season, and having him as a backup to Amad Diallo isn’t a negative call.
