Who will win the Champions League league phase?
We believe Real Madrid will finish first in the Champions League league phase this season. Why the "Royal Club"? The answer is simple: among the leading contenders, Madrid have the most manageable schedule. José Mourinho's side will face Inter (home), Arsenal (away), PSV (home), Roma (away), Leipzig (home), Shakhtar, LASK (home) and AEK (away). On paper, Real can realistically collect 21 points. The trip to Arsenal will be difficult, but in every other fixture — including Inter at home — Madrid should be clear favorites. Barcelona, PSG, Bayern and Arsenal, their main rivals for first place, have all been handed tougher schedules, so Mbappé and company have every chance to target top spot.
Which teams will finish in the top 8 of the Champions League league phase?
We do not expect any major surprises here. Our prediction is that all eight teams from the first pot will finish in the top eight: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Inter.
Who will finish bottom of the Champions League league phase?
In our view, every team that has qualified for the Champions League league phase has a chance to surprise and write its own story in this season's competition, just as Norway's Bodø/Glimt did last year by unexpectedly reaching the round of 16. Still, we are willing to predict that Slavia Prague will be the tournament's biggest outsider. The draw has been extremely harsh on the Czech club. Slavia will face Lens, Sabah, Fenerbahçe, Arsenal, Villarreal, Bayern Munich, Porto and Aston Villa. They have a realistic chance of taking three points against Sabah, but they will be underdogs in every other match. That leaves their prospects in the tournament looking very uncertain.
Who will be the Champions League top scorer in 2026/2027?
There are plenty of options in this market. Bookmakers give Kylian Mbappé the best chance of winning the Champions League Golden Boot, but our pick is Harry Kane. The English striker plays for the most attacking team in Europe and remains the focal point of Bayern's attack. Olise and Díaz create for Kane, and he continues to deliver. Harry scored 14 goals in 13 matches last season, 11 in 13 the year before and 8 in 12 in 2023/2024. His numbers keep trending upward. We expect the Bayern forward to reach around 15 goals in this Champions League campaign and reclaim the tournament's top scorer award.
Who will win the Champions League in 2026/2027?
The reigning Champions League holders achieved something remarkable under Luis Enrique by repeating Zidane's Real Madrid feat and successfully defending the trophy in 2026. Completing a three-peat, however, will be extremely difficult for PSG. The team did not become stronger over the summer, while an unconvincing start to the season has raised more questions.
Looking at the other giants, Bayern still seem a little raw for a triumph of this scale, Arsenal are overly pragmatic, and Real Madrid continue to have an obvious imbalance in the squad that is likely to become a problem in the knockout rounds.
In our view, Barcelona are the strongest candidate to take the European crown this season. The Catalans pulled off the biggest transfer of the summer by signing Rodri from Manchester City. That move instantly transformed their midfield into a monumental unit and arguably the strongest in the world. The attacking group of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, Anthony Gordon and Fermín López combines explosive energy, huge off-ball work rate and elite creativity. The one thing that could prevent Hansi Flick's side from reaching the summit is injuries to key players, as happened in the previous two seasons. But if Barcelona can keep their best squad available, we believe they will lift the famous Champions League trophy in 2026/2027.
