Few Ghanaian football clubs have risen as quickly as FC Samartex, the team from Samreboi in the Western Region. Founded in 1996, the club began as a recreational side for employees of Samartex Timber and Plywood Company. Players initially trained after their regular work shifts, long before professional football became the club's main focus. The team eventually adopted green and white colours, with green representing the surrounding forests and local timber industry.
Known as the Timber Giants, Samartex spent many years in Ghana's lower divisions before earning promotion in 2022. The club won the Division One League Zone Two title and secured its first Ghana Premier League place. Its debut top-flight campaign ended in tenth position, a respectable result for a newly promoted team.
The following season brought an extraordinary achievement under Ghanaian coach Nurudeen Amadu, who guided Samartex to its first national championship. The club collected 61 points from 34 matches and finished ten points ahead of second-placed Accra Lions. Emmanuel Mamah and Ebenezer Ocran scored in the final league game, which completed the historic title campaign.
Samartex added another trophy in August 2024 after defeating Nsoatreman in the Ghana Champion of Champions match. Mamah scored the decisive goal with a header, securing another memorable result for the club.
The league title also earned Samartex its first appearance in the CAF Champions League during the 2024/25 campaign. The Timber Giants eliminated Cameroonian champions Victoria United before facing Morocco's Raja Casablanca in the next qualifying round. Raja eventually progressed, but Samartex had already recorded its first victories in African club football.
