Ethiopian Medhin, also known as Ethiopian Insurance FC, is a football club from Addis Ababa, founded in 1982. Its history includes national cup victories, African competitions and a long-awaited Ethiopian Premier League title. The club traditionally wears blue and white and has faced many of Ethiopia's best-known football teams.
Medhin won the Ethiopian Cup in 1995 and repeated that success in 2002, after a final against Ethiopian Electric. Its first major African achievement came in 1993, when the club reached the CAF Cup semi-finals. The team defeated opponents such as Rayon Sports of Rwanda and Al-Merrikh of Sudan during that campaign. Stella Club d'Adjamé from Côte d'Ivoire eventually ended its run before the final.
The club came close to its first league championship in 1997/98 but finished second behind Ethiopian Electric. After relegation in 2014, Medhin spent several seasons outside the Premier League before returning for the 2022/23 campaign. That return brought a third-place finish, followed by an even greater achievement two seasons later.
In 2024/25, Ethiopian Medhin finally became Premier League champion under head coach Gebremedhin Haile, with 73 points from 34 matches. The team recorded 22 victories and conceded just 15 goals throughout the entire league season. Captain Hayder Sherefa received the Player of the Season award, while Abubeker Nura was named the league's best goalkeeper. The championship was Medhin's first top-flight title and added another major trophy to its history.
