Dire Dawa City is an Ethiopian football club known for its orange kit and its long history in national competitions. Founded in 1982, the club later ceased operations before returning to football in 2003 under the name Dire Dawa Kenema. Its nicknames, the Easterners and the Orange Ones, reflect the team's home city and traditional colours.
After its return, Dire Dawa progressed through regional football and reached the Ethiopian Premier League for the first time in 2007/08. The club suffered relegation in 2012 but earned another promotion three years later. Its historic home ground, Dire Dawa Stadium, also hosted six matches during the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations. The stadium underwent major renovations after the 2017/18 season, including improvements to the pitch.
Dire Dawa remained in the Premier League for more than a decade after its promotion in 2015. The club finished tenth in 2022/23, followed by twelfth and thirteenth places in the next two seasons. In October 2025, it won the Gofere Dire Cup, a regional tournament with clubs from Ethiopia and Djibouti. Dire Dawa collected ten points from four matches and finished ahead of Djibouti Telecom. The 2025/26 Premier League campaign ended in relegation, with nine victories and 42 points from 38 matches.
