Brann vs PAOK Prediction 27 August 2026

Details
The main thing

🔊 PAOK and Brann meet in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League play-off qualifying tie. In the first match, Brann played a largely reactive game, looking to hit on the counter, and came close to taking a lead into this return fixture. But the more experienced Greek side held firm and levelled the score. With everything still to play for, PAOK now travel to Norway looking to secure their place in the European autumn.

    Head-to-Head

📊 The head-to-head record between these two sides consists of two meetings, both ending 1-1. In the first of those encounters, PAOK were the dominant side but fell behind and had to come from behind, converting just 1 of their 23 shots on the Norwegian side's goal.

    Brann Team Overview

Brann entered their Conference League qualifying campaign at the second round, coming through Romanian side Universitatea Cluj 5-3 on aggregate, then beating Cypriot club Apollon in extra time in the third round, 4-3 on aggregate. Now comes the decisive moment: the play-off round second leg, with Brann still very much in contention for a place in the Conference League league phase. Last week the club also got their Norwegian Cup campaign off to a positive start, beating Fyllingen 4-0 to advance to the next round. In the domestic league, they remain in the hunt for a European spot.

Under Eirik Horneland, Brann play a balanced but forceful and direct brand of football in the best Scandinavian tradition - high tempo, collective pressing in the opposition half, and tenacity in duels. The club did significant business in the transfer window, raising considerable funds through the sales of key players including Felix Horn Myhre, Eivind Helland and Emil Kornvig.

The injury situation is relatively stable: defenders Nana Boakye and Joakim Torsveit are the only players currently sidelined. Up front, things look considerably brighter - striker Noah Holm has hit form at just the right time, scoring three goals across two matches, which has been a major factor in Brann reaching the final stage of qualifying.

    PAOK Thessaloniki Team Overview

PAOK began their European qualifying campaign in the UEFA Europa League second round, where they comfortably eliminated Dynamo Kyiv 5-2 on aggregate. Anderlecht then knocked them out in the third round, winning 4-2 on aggregate, and PAOK now drop into the UEFA Conference League play-off round. In the Greek Super League, they made a strong start, beating Levadiakos 4-0, and sit joint-top with AEK after the opening round.

The arrival of young Italian head coach Alessio Lisci in the summer has brought a noticeable shift in how PAOK play. He has moved the team away from the slow, possession-based approach of before, replacing it with a more dynamic and attacking style. The emphasis is now on pressing high up the pitch and transitioning quickly from defence to attack. Lisci pays particular attention to the midfield, with his players expected to win the ball back immediately after losing possession and press opponents deep in their own half.

PAOK's squad situation has been complicated by a run of injuries arriving at a difficult moment in their qualifying schedule. Three key players are currently sidelined: recently signed forward Taha Ali, holding midfielder Sauliho Meïté, and wide attacker Kiril Despodov, one of the team's main creative outlets.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

At home, Brann will look to take the game to their opponents from the off, pressing high and committing bodies forward - which should leave space in behind for PAOK's attackers to exploit. In the first leg, the Greeks had 16 shots in the opening 45 minutes alone, but were let down by their finishing, while Brann spent the entire first half sitting deep, as the weaker side away from home tends to do. We expect both teams to be more aggressive and more productive in this match than they were in the first leg, with the deadlock broken inside the opening 45 minutes. Our bet is 1st Half: Total Goals - Over 0.5 at odds of 1.4*.

    🚩Corners Prediction

The first leg produced 11 corners between the two sides - six for Brann and five for PAOK. With the tie level at 1-1, both teams have everything to play for, and the return leg on Brann's home ground should be an open, attack-minded affair. PAOK consistently earn four or five corners per match through long-range efforts and blocked crosses, and with a draw not good enough for either side, whichever team finds themselves behind will be forced into a late push. We think Total Corners - Over 9.5 is worth backing here at 1.8*.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

The first leg in Thessaloniki ended 1-1, with the two sides picking up five bookings between them - three for Brann and two for PAOK. Both teams were willing to foul to break up quick transitions. PAOK are well known for their emotionally charged South American and European players, who tend to react badly to refereeing decisions in away European matches and pick up unnecessary cards for dissent. A place in the European autumn and significant UEFA prize money are on the line. If the score is level or close heading into the 75th minute, the match is likely to break down into rough challenges, time-wasting and tactical fouls. Our prediction is Total Yellow Cards - Over 4.5.

    ⭐️ Editor's Pick

Brann came into this tie as underdogs, but managed to score away from home and bring a draw back to their own ground. At home, the Norwegians won't sit back - they'll look for chances, and I'm confident they'll find at least one. PAOK, as favourites and the more experienced European side, should be able to capitalise on their opponents' mistakes and get on the scoresheet themselves. This has the makings of an open, attacking game where neither side keeps a clean sheet. With the away goals rule no longer in play, any goal will force the losing team to push forward, which will inevitably create space for counter-attacks. Our preferred bet for this match is Both Teams to Score - Yes. Predicted score: 1-2.
