The main thing

🎙️ Which team will secure crucial points and distance themselves from the relegation zone? The opening fixture of La Liga's Matchday 17 features a clash between Valencia and Mallorca at the Mestalla. Both clubs are currently battling to avoid dropping out of the top tier, making every point invaluable. It's worth noting that the "Bats" have been quite convincing at home, unlike the "Islanders," who struggle on the road. Bookmakers have weighed several key factors and are giving a twofold advantage to the home side.

    Head-to-Head

📊 Last season, the teams exchanged home victories: Mallorca triumphed over Valencia at the “Iberostar” with a 2-1 win, while the “Oranges” secured revenge at “Mestalla” with a 1-0 victory. Interestingly, the “Vermilions” traditionally face challenges in away matches against the Valencian club, having secured just one win in the last 15 years (in the 2022/23 La Liga season - 2-1). Over the past 10 head-to-head encounters, Valencia averages 1 goal per match, while Mallorca averages 1.2.

    Valencia Team Overview

🟠 Valencia's performances in recent years have been marked by inconsistency, forcing the club to hover in the lower half of the league table season after season. The arrival of Carlos Corberan brought hope for a brighter future, yet this season, the "Bats" find themselves embroiled in another relegation battle. Currently sitting 17th and enduring a three-game winless streak in La Liga, they are clearly facing significant on-field challenges. However, at the Mestalla, Valencia have been relatively convincing-securing 12 points from 8 matches, suffering only 2 defeats in the current La Liga campaign. Their average goal stats stand at 0.94 scored per game and 1.56 conceded.

⚫️ Last weekend, Valencia faced a daunting test against Atletico Madrid (1-2) at the Wanda Metropolitano. Despite putting up a commendable fight, the "Bats" couldn't add to their points tally. At times, Carlos Corberan's side managed to control possession, showcasing their potential in positional play. The expected goals ratio was 1.17 to 1.01 in favor of Valencia. Midweek, the "Oranges" delighted their fans with a victory over Sporting Gijon (2-0) in the Copa del Rey Round of 32. Hugo Duro has been the club's standout performer this season, with a tally of 6 goals and 1 assist across all competitions.

    Mallorca Team Overview

🔴 For the second consecutive season, Mallorca are led by Jagoba Arrasate. The Spanish coach has built a well-organized team, yet they still lack skill and consistency. This vulnerability becomes evident over the course of the season. Currently, the "islanders" are sitting in 14th place in the league table, with 17 points to their name. Their away performance in La Liga has been particularly disheartening, with 6 losses in 8 matches. The undisputed leader for the "vermilion" is Vedat Muriqi, who has already netted 9 goals in 15 league matches, placing him third in the league's top scorers list.

⚫️ The current squad of Mallorca doesn't allow them to aim for significant achievements in Spain's top flight. In the last round of the national championship, the "islanders" secured a crucial victory against Elche (3-1). In this matchup, Jagoba Arrasate's side not only dominated in duels but also showed superior positional play. The expected goals ratio was telling: 2.45 to 0.29 in favor of Mallorca. Midweek, the "vermilion" concluded their Copa del Rey campaign with a defeat against Deportivo (0-1). A lack of persistence in the opponent's half and numerous passing errors contributed to their ultimate failure.

    Latest news

    Valencia

🎤 Following their cup victory over Sporting Gijon (2-0) last Tuesday, head coach Carlos Corberan shared his thoughts: “Today, the idea was to play with a 4-4-2 formation. At times, the positioning of their defenders meant that our wingers had to track back, which might have given the impression we were playing with five at the back, but we aimed to start with a back four. The team always needs to be versatile and able to adapt to the game.” The Spanish specialist specifically praised Lucas Beltran's current form: “The key is always with the players themselves. The work we do with the psychologist isn't about scoring goals; it's about managing the various situations we encounter, and at the club, we have excellent professionals who consistently help players handle uncomfortable situations. Beltran's work is outstanding because he's a kid with immense energy, dedication, and commitment. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, he helps us a lot, and we're very happy to have him with us.”

❌ In the "Bats'" injury list are Stole Dimitrievski (muscle injury), Eray Cömert (leg injury), Arnaut Danjuma (ankle injury).

    Mallorca

🎤 After being knocked out of the Copa del Rey, Jagoba Arrasate expressed his frustration: "It's a shame; we started the match well. I think we were focused and slightly better than them. We defended well, and it's unfortunate that we couldn't make the changes we wanted. In the first half, we lacked precision, and in the second, we needed more control. We ended with little attacking threat, and the substitutions we made were certainly offensive, but we couldn't utilize them due to injuries and fatigue. Friday is just around the corner, and it's a very important match. But it's true that we are disappointed right now." Antonio Sánchez also spoke with journalists: "The match unfolded as we expected. I think we dominated in that sense; we created chances, and I don't think the second half changed much. We continued to control the game, we created opportunities, but when they got close, they scored. They have quality players, and some very good ones came on, and they capitalized on their only chance. Now we should forget about this and focus on the upcoming clash with Valencia."

❌ Among Mallorca's unavailable players for the next match are Omar Mascarell (international duty), Iván Cuéllar (coach's decision), and Dani Rodríguez (suspension). The participation of David López (muscle injury) and Manu Morlanes (leg injury) remains doubtful.

    ⚽️ Goal Prediction

Both clubs are struggling to develop their attacking play. This is particularly true for Mallorca, who focus on a deep-lying defensive setup. Notably, in 6 of Valencia's last 7 matches, no more than two goals have been scored. A similar trend is evident in 4 of the last 5 head-to-head encounters between the "Oranges" and the "Islanders." The editorial choice is under 2.5 goals total.

    🚩 Corner Prediction

We suggest placing a bet based on current statistical trends. Firstly, neither club is known for a high average number of corners: Valencia averages 5, while Mallorca averages 3.3. Secondly, in 5 of the Islanders' last 6 matches, there have been no more than 10 corner kicks. A similar trend is observed in their last 6 head-to-head meetings. We recommend the following bet option - under 9.5 total corners.

    Editor's Prediction

The upcoming clash promises to be a battle of wills, with both clubs desperately needing points to avoid a fierce relegation fight at the season's end. Both the "Oranges" and the "Islanders" are known for their patient style of play, focusing on well-organized defensive strategies. Current statistical trends suggest a high likelihood of a low-scoring affair. We anticipate a final score of 1-1, with the key bet being under 2.5 goals.
