    KAA Gent Team Overview

Gent started the season from the second qualifying round of the Conference League and successfully got past LNZ Lebedyn (0:0 on aggregate, 4:2 on penalties) and then Gothenburg (2:1). In the league, the team confidently picked up six points in the first two rounds, beating Mechelen (2:0) and Louvière (2:1). Incidentally, being in good shape thanks to the early European start helped a great deal in meeting the maximum target in the domestic championship as well. That said, despite the good results, the team has problems with finishing and with their home form, as they have managed only one win in three matches in front of their own fans.

The team is managed by 44-year-old Belgian specialist Rik De Mil. He is a local, who enjoys strong support from the fans. At Gent he is building a long-term project combining experienced players and young talents. De Mil sets the team up to play modern, balanced football built around domination in midfield. When possession is lost, the team immediately switches to a high collective press, looking to disrupt the opposition's attacks as early as the opponent's half.

    Hibernian Team Overview

Hibernian come into this Conference League play-off match under an extremely demanding schedule, but on an emotional high. The club is celebrating its 150th anniversary and is aiming to reach the league phase of European competition for the first time in its history. After a stumble in the opening league match against Motherwell (1:2), Hibernian found their rhythm and put together a four-match unbeaten run: in the league they even beat Rangers (2:1), in the League Cup they beat Partick (1:0), and they also came through both legs against Shkëndija (2:1).

The team is managed by David Gray. He is instilling a classic but modernised Scottish style of football in the squad. Away from home, Hibernian are not shy about sitting deep. The manager demands compactness, high density in midfield and aggressive physical play. The main emphasis is on quick counter-attacks and quality delivery from set pieces. Away in Belgium, Hibernian will clearly look to keep things tight and avoid being picked apart by a more experienced opponent.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

In three home matches this season, Gent have conceded just one goal, which speaks to quality and pragmatic defending even when results have not been entirely positive. The total goals under 3.5 has come in seven of their matches in a row. We are confident the Belgians will find the net, as Hibernian have problems at the back, but Rick De Mil's side have been getting by with narrow wins at the start of this season, settling for a positive result and not taking unnecessary risks. For this match we suggest total goals under 3 at odds of 1.44*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Gent's tactical model under Rick De Mil is built around total possession and maximum use of the flanks, which allows the Belgians to earn an average of 8.3 corners per match at home at the start of this season. Hibernian will set up a deep defensive block in Belgium, deliberately surrendering the wide areas and preferring to put the ball out for a corner rather than risk clearances into the centre. The Scots themselves will look for rare chances almost exclusively on the counter and from set pieces, while also making periodic attacks down the flanks. A bet on total corners over 9.5 at 1.7* looks the logical choice.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Hibernian will arrive in Belgium with a clear plan to keep the game tight, so the Scots will not hesitate to cut out Gent's quick wide attacks with hard British fouls well outside the penalty area. Gent's trademark pressing involves instant tactical fouls on opponents at the start of counter-attacks. The summer rustiness of both clubs' remodelled defensive lines will inevitably spill over into dangerous late challenges, for which the referee will have to reach into his pocket without delay. Total yellow cards over 3.5 looks like an obvious call.

*Odds are indicative and may vary across different bookmakers.

    ⭐️Editor's Pick

Scottish clubs (with the exception of Celtic and Rangers) have traditionally struggled enormously to create chances away from home in European competition. Hibernian avoid open football on the road, operating as the second team and relying solely on rare set pieces. In the previous qualifying round against Macedonian side Shkendija, the Scots dropped into a deep defensive shell away from home and finished the match 0-0. Gent's form at home also tells us with confidence that this team will not take unnecessary risks and will be able to see out the match with a minimal winning margin without expending too much energy. We do not believe Hibernian will find a goal in this match and suggest both teams to score (no). Predicted score - 1-0.
