Frankfurt vs Cologne Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 16 October 2026

Details
Key points

🔊 Eintracht and Köln will open the sixth round of the Bundesliga with a meeting between two sides who have both lacked consistency, though for different reasons. Frankfurt have too often lost control in their own penalty area, while Köln come into this away fixture on the back of an important win in the Rhineland derby. Home advantage has not yet proved a guarantee of results for Eintracht, and Köln's own problems on the road have persisted. Both sides are capable of creating chances, but the quality of their defending may well decide this match.

Head-to-head clashes promise plenty of goals

📊 Across 38 official meetings, Eintracht have won 13, Köln 15, with ten draws. The average number of goals per game in this fixture is 3.13, and both teams have scored in 58% of those meetings. Last season Frankfurt took four points from two matches: they won 4-3 away first, then the two sides drew at Eintracht's ground.

🔗 The historical record tips slightly in Köln's favour, but the current defensive state of both sides matters more for the upcoming match. Frankfurt have conceded 16 goals in five league rounds, while Köln have not kept a clean sheet in 19 consecutive Bundesliga matches. So the conditions for goals are there regardless of who takes the initiative first.

Eintracht are paying a heavy price for their defensive mistakes

Frankfurt have picked up only five points from five matches and sit in the lower half of the table. The team have scored nine goals but conceded 16 - one of the worst defensive records in the league after the opening five rounds. The most recent match, against RB Leipzig, exposed those problems in particularly painful fashion: Eintracht lost 0-6. Head coach Adi Hütter noted that his side had nine shots on target, while Leipzig scored six times from ten attempts. That difference in conversion shows just how much Frankfurt need to improve at both ends of the pitch.

The problems are not limited to one bad evening. Eintracht have not won any of their last six home Bundesliga matches, picking up three draws and three defeats in that run. The team are involved in a high volume of duels - 107 on average per game - but their duel success rate is only 50%. Aggression in the challenge alone is not enough: when the first attempt to stop an opponent fails, the defenders are left scrambling to cover the space left behind. Against Köln, who have scored in each of the five rounds this season, those lapses could again prove decisive.

In attack, though, Eintracht do not look hopeless. Nine goals in five matches is a reasonably competitive return, and the team regularly create chances and are capable of responding after conceding. The main challenge for the hosts is to avoid giving the opposition too much space on the break and to prevent the match from turning into an open exchange with no control over the game.

Cologne have gained an emotional boost, but their away record remains a cause for concern

Köln have seven points and sit in mid-table, with eight goals scored and ten conceded. The win over Borussia Mönchengladbach gave the team a boost in confidence: Isak Johannesson opened the scoring from a set piece, and Said El Mala sealed the victory with a long-range effort. In that match, the team not only took their chances but also held firm under pressure late on. For a club that lacked stability at the start of the season, that kind of result matters from a psychological standpoint as well.

Away from home, though, Köln remain vulnerable. They have not won in their last 15 Bundesliga away matches - drawing six and losing nine. In the current season they have already lost to Stuttgart and Hamburg, and the defence continues to concede chances even in games where Köln have had opportunities to pick up points. That said, the visitors are not passive in possession: an average of 52% possession and 82 shots across five matchdays shows they are capable of regularly getting into attacking positions. If Eintracht again leave space between the lines, Köln may be able to exploit it through quick combinations and runs from deep.

    Latest news

    Eintracht Frankfurt

💊 Defender Jeremiaha Maluzе has returned to training, and Malik Pimong has also been working with the squad after a minor injury. The final squad will become clearer closer to the match.

    Cologne

❌ The visitors' squad situation has been complicated by the loss of Ellyes Skhiri: the midfielder picked up an ankle injury in the derby and, according to the club, will be out for an extended period. Tom Krauß replaced him and had a strong second half, so the coaching staff have the option of reshaping the midfield without overhauling the entire system. That said, Skhiri's absence reduces the options in the holding zone, where Köln will need to do a lot of work off the ball and close down passes in behind the midfielders.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Eintracht have picked up 12 yellow cards across five matchdays, while Köln have nine. That works out to an average of 2.4 bookings per match for the Frankfurt side and 1.8 for the visitors. An additional factor is the high intensity of duels: Eintracht contest around 107 per game, and not all of them end in a clean tackle. A fixture between two sides with defensive problems and a need to pick up points creates the conditions for tactical fouls and bookings. Prediction: Total Bookings - Over 3.5 Yellow Cards.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

All five of Eintracht's matches in the current league season have ended with at least four goals. In four of Köln's five matches, at least three goals have been scored, and Köln have scored in every round. Frankfurt's defence is conceding an average of 3.2 goals per game, while Köln's backline also regularly gives opponents opportunities. Against that backdrop, the case for a high-scoring match rests not only on head-to-head statistics but also on the current form of both sides. Even if one team takes control, the other has enough attacking threat to respond. Prediction: Both Teams to Score - Yes at 1.33*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Köln won at least five corners in each of the first five matchdays. In total, they earned 33 corners over that period - an average of 6.6 per game. Eintracht, for their part, allowed opponents an average of around four corners per match. The visitors make active use of the flanks and regularly carry attacks through to their conclusion, and Frankfurt's defensive difficulties may force the hosts to put the ball behind their own byline. For that reason, Köln Team Total Corners - Over 4.5 looks more justified than a bet on the overall corners total: for the prediction to land, the visitors do not need to dominate throughout the entire match. The odds are 1.96*.

*Odds are indicative and may vary between bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editor's Prediction

Eintracht are at home but have so far been unable to make that count: their defence has been giving away too many chances and the run without a home win continues. Köln go into the match in better spirits after the derby and score regularly, though their away record remains poor. In these circumstances, picking a winner is risky - both sides have attacking arguments, but neither has shown enough defensive reliability to make a clean-sheet victory a confident call.

Both teams' matches early in the season have regularly produced plenty of goals, and last season's head-to-head meetings also featured at least four. My main bet is therefore Total Goals - Over 3.5. Correct score prediction: 2-2.
