Juventus vs Rennes Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 22 October 2026
📢 The third round of the league phase of the Europa League brings an interesting contest: Juventus take on Rennes. One of Italy's strongest clubs host a solid Ligue 1 side at the Allianz Stadium - one capable of causing problems even for more decorated opponents. Neither team has been able to show real consistency at the start of the new season, which makes the three points all the more valuable. But both sides know it will not be straightforward.

Head-to-Head
📊 Juventus and Rennes have not met each other in the 21st century.

Juventus have lost their early momentum
Juventus can hardly look back on the start of the new season with any satisfaction. Things began promisingly enough: they won their first two Serie A matches, keeping a clean sheet in both. It seemed as though the Old Lady was ready to mount a serious title challenge, but a noticeable slump followed. The team began dropping points regularly, and the quality of their football stopped matching the high expectations of their supporters.
Last weekend was particularly painful. Juventus hosted Lazio at home and suffered a humiliating 0-3 defeat. The scoreline did not reflect what actually happened on the pitch - Lazio created chances worth just 0.51 xG yet somehow put three unanswered goals past the hosts. All the luck was clearly on Lazio's side, though that can hardly serve as a full excuse: supporters care about results above all, and this one was catastrophic. The defeat dropped Juventus to eighth in the Serie A table, which is entirely at odds with the ambitions of one of Italy's most decorated clubs.
In the Europa League, however, things are going considerably better. The Old Lady have won both of their opening matches and lead the table on additional criteria. That said, this is perhaps not especially surprising given that the level of opposition is noticeably lower than in Europe's top club competition. Even so, Juventus have not been without their difficulties. In the previous round they travelled to Celta and ground out a hard-fought 2-1 win. They went into half-time trailing, despite having had a clear edge in play. After the break, though, the team turned things around and, with better football, got the result their performance deserved.

Rennes maintain a high standard
Last season Rennes fought for a Champions League place right up until the final matchday, but the decisive moment didn't go their way. The French club have continued to play decent football, though, and are again targeting a high finish in the new Ligue 1 campaign. After seven rounds they have 13 points and sit sixth in the table, just one point behind the leaders. They could already be top, were it not for some frustrating slip-ups in recent matches. The most painful was last weekend's defeat to Paris, losing 3-4 - three goals scored should have been enough for at least a draw, but the defence was simply awful.
Things have gone somewhat better in the Europa League: after two rounds Rennes have four points and are 13th in the table. In their opening match they couldn't break down Sturm away from home, settling for a goalless draw. They did manage their first win in the second round, though it was far from straightforward.
Rennes hosted OFI at home and dominated almost the entire match. The French side had 25 shots to their opponents' 2, with 9 on target. The expected goals figures also reflected the hosts' enormous superiority - 1.70 xG against a modest 0.06. Yet even with that overwhelming dominance, Rennes nearly dropped points: OFI unexpectedly took the lead as early as the tenth minute. The home side repeatedly tried to break through the opposition's defensive shape, but only managed to equalise on 76 minutes, with the winning goal not arriving until the 90th.

Predicted Lineups
📋 Predicted Juventus starting XI: Vicario - Kalulu, Bremer, Lucumí, Çelik - Luiz, Sarr - González, McKennie, Alajbegović - Kolo Muani.
📋 Predicted Rennes starting XI: Samba - Frankowski, Rouault, Cresswell, Reynolds - Thomasson, Cissé, Szymański - Soumaré, Dia, Blas.
⚽️ Goals Prediction
Juventus don't always make the best start to matches, but after the break they almost invariably find a way through the opposition defence. In 7 of their last 8 matches, the Old Lady scored at least one goal in the second half. Given Rennes' defensive problems, which were particularly evident in their recent meeting with Paris, we're backing that trend to continue. Our bet is Juventus to Score in the 2nd Half at 1.49*.
🚩 Corners Prediction
Rennes are very effective away from home when it comes to set pieces: they won more than three corners in each of their previous eight away matches. Juventus are inconsistent at the moment, so the French side are unlikely to sit back for the entire game and will push forward regularly. We're therefore backing Rennes Team Total Corners - Over 3.5 at 1.95*.
🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction
Juventus are not a particularly rough side: in Serie A they average just 1.3 yellow cards per match, one of the lowest figures in the league. At home they tend to control possession and dictate the flow of games, which gives them little reason to commit tactical fouls. Rennes are unlikely to force the hosts into repeatedly breaking up attacks, so we're backing Juventus Team Total Yellow Cards - Under 1.5.
🚀 Player Stat Bet
Esteban Lepaul made quite an impression last season with 20 goals and 5 assists in 32 Ligue 1 matches. He hasn't dropped his level this campaign either, with 7 goals in 7 games, including a hat-trick last matchday. However, Rennes' attacking leader will not be available for the upcoming match against Juventus. Boulaye Dia, on loan from Lazio, is expected to take his place in the starting XI. The Senegalese forward spent two seasons at the Rome club, so he is well acquainted with Italian football and will have a good idea of how to exploit Juventus' defensive weaknesses. Our bet is Boulaye Dia to Score at 4.25*.
😱 Risky Bet
Both sides have struggled badly for consistency at the start of the season, and that applies not only to results but also to defensive reliability. Matches involving Juventus and Rennes have already produced some high-scoring affairs on more than one occasion, particularly where Rennes are concerned. Risk-takers may therefore consider backing Total Goals - Over 4 at 4.50*.
🎯 Safe Bet
Juventus rarely leave the pitch without scoring: they found the net in 9 of their last 10 matches. At home against a Rennes side that has conceded regularly this season, repeating that is very much on the cards. For those who prefer safer options, we're suggesting a bet on Juventus to Score at 1.12*.
👀 If the Match Goes Another Way
Despite the conditions pointing towards a high-scoring game, the opposite scenario can't be ruled out. Following their heavy defeat to Lazio, Juventus may place greater emphasis on defensive solidity, focusing first and foremost on avoiding further errors at the back. Rennes, for their part, could opt for a very cautious approach, aware of the difference in class and the difficulty of an away fixture against the Turin side. The alternative bet is Total Goals - Under 2.5 at 2.20*.

⭐ Editor's Prediction
The bookmakers make Juventus clear favourites for this match, and it is hard to disagree - virtually all the advantages lie with the Turin side. The Old Lady are significantly stronger than Rennes in terms of squad quality, have extensive European experience, and will be playing in front of their own supporters. An additional source of motivation for the Italian club will be the need to make amends for their painful 0-3 defeat to Lazio. After a blow like that to their pride, Juventus will surely be eager to win. Our main bet is therefore a Juventus win. Predicted score: 3-1.
