Baltika vs Spartak Moscow Prediction 16 August 2026

Details
The main thing

🔊 After a home defeat to Krasnodar, Spartak face a tough away trip to Kaliningrad. Andrei Talalaev is proving at the start of the season that last year's success in the RPL was no fluke. Baltika beat the Red and Whites twice in last season's championship and are looking to continue that trend.

    Head-to-Head

📊 The head-to-head record is not rich in matches, but very vivid. In five meetings, Baltika have three wins and Spartak have two. The Moscow side won both matches in the 2022/23 season, but then lost in the Cup in 2024 and were beaten twice in last season's RPL.

    Baltika Kaliningrad Team Overview

The Kaliningrad side have maintained the organisation that brought them success last season. The away win in Samara (2:0) showed the strength of Talalaev's team - a solid low block, quality set pieces and quick ball recovery. However, against top opponents this approach has only worked in spells: defeats to CSKA (1:2) in the RPL and Zenit (0:1) in the Cup confirm that. Overall, though, six points from three rounds is a confident start. Baltika are fourth, behind Spartak only on goal difference.

The season began anxiously for the Kaliningrad side: defensive leader Kevin Andrade left for Zenit, and after the defeat to CSKA the team also lost their first-choice goalkeeper Maxim Borisko, who signed a contract with the Army Men. Talalaev was unhappy, but the situation was resolved by the swift return of Evgeny Latyshonok on loan from Nizhny Novgorod. With the new goalkeeper, Baltika won two matches in the league, and the cup defeat to the St Petersburg side is unlikely to have had much effect on the team's mood ahead of the match against Spartak.

    Spartak Moscow Team Overview

The reigning Russian Cup holders started the championship with two wins - over Rodina (3:0) and Akhmat (2:1). But their first real test of title credentials against a direct rival ended in failure: the Moscow side lost at home to Krasnodar (1:2). Spartak lost to the southerners at home for the third time in a row, and this is part of a more serious problem: the Muscovites have lost 6 of their 8 matches against top-3 RPL clubs since the start of last season.

Spartak's attack remains dangerous: the team scored in all three RPL rounds, thrashed Orenburg in the Cup (5:1), and only lost to Zenit in the Super Cup on penalties. But the defeat to Krasnodar showed that under intense pressure the Red and Whites' defence gives opponents chances. Now Karsedo's side travel to Kaliningrad to face last season's biggest surprise, where a stubborn and physically powerful opponent awaits them.

    Latest news

    Baltika Kaliningrad

✅ No injuries, the team is preparing as normal.

    Spartak Moscow

❌ Ezequiel Barco will miss the match through injury - the Argentine picked up a haematoma in the match against Akhmat, which forced him off in the game against Krasnodar and left him without enough time to recover. Martins is likely to take his place in central midfield. In attack, Mirlind Daku is expected to start in place of Ugalde - a decision linked to the powerful and physically intense defending of Baltika's backline.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

Baltika's trademark style involves tough, physical play: the team often goes into challenges and doesn't always do so cleanly. Against a fairly quick side, there may be more fouls than usual. A bet on total yellow cards over 3.5 at odds of 1.50* looks justified - it has come in in 14 of Baltika's 16 home matches.

    ⚽️ Goals Prediction

Spartak have scored in all five matches of the new season. The statistics also support a goal for the visitors: the Muscovites have scored in 11 of their last 12 RPL matches, while Baltika have conceded in 10 of their previous 11 league games. For a safer option, we'll go with a goal for the visitors, but with the Muscovites averaging more than two per match, the optimal choice is Spartak individual total over 1 at 1.41*.

    🚩 Corners Prediction

Spartak, regardless of the opponent, look to play their own game - combining, pressing high. With the arrival of Daku, there is now a player who can both run in behind on his own and receive crosses into the box. All of this increases the team's attacking threat and leads to more set pieces near the opposition goal. The bet on Spartak individual total corners over 4.5 has come in in 7 of the team's 8 RPL matches. The odds on this total are 1.56*.

    🚀 Player Statistics Bet

Mirlind Daku has already made his debut for Spartak and may start against Baltika's solid defence. The forward has two goals in the league for Rubin. On top of that, while playing in Kazan, he scored twice against the Kaliningrad side. We're looking at a Daku goal at 2.70*.

    😱 Risky Bet

Last season, both matches between these two sides featured red cards. Baltika are fired up to play at home, and the intensity of the contest will be high. The match will be officiated by a team of referees led by Andrey Prokopov. In his last seven RPL matches, he has shown two red cards. The odds on a red card are 3.75*.

    🎯 Reliable Bet

Spartak are not currently in the form or rhythm needed to comfortably beat sides that know how to sit in a low block. The Red and Whites don't always manage to break down a packed defence - they are good in quick transitions, but Baltika won't give them that. Baltika have not lost by more than one goal in their previous 33 RPL matches or in their last 16 home league games. We're going with Baltika win with handicap (+1.5) at odds of 1.29*.

👀 If the Match Doesn't Go to Script

Spartak travel to Kaliningrad as favourites. Baltika have lost their first-choice goalkeeper but have brought back Latyshonok, and the team still needs time to build cohesion in defence. If the visitors fail to score quickly, Baltika can turn the match around over the course of the game through sheer character - one mistake, a free kick or a quick counter-attack could be enough. The odds on a Baltika win are 4.25*.

*Odds are indicative and may vary across different bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editor's Pick

In last season's head-to-head meetings, only Baltika scored, but a lot has changed since then. Spartak have a new manager and are playing with real attacking intent (12 goals in five matches), but they are making defensive errors - a problem that has followed the Moscow club for years. Baltika know how to exploit opponents' mistakes, and it's easy to believe in a home goal, but keeping a clean sheet will be difficult: the Kaliningrad side have conceded in 3 of their 4 official matches this season. We're going with both teams to score (yes). Predicted score - 1:2.
