Strasbourg vs Monaco Prediction 12 September 2026

Details
The main thing

🔊 Monaco have won all five of their official matches this season - the only Ligue 1 side with a perfect start. Strasbourg began differently: they were beaten in Marseille, but recovered after that and now boast the best attack in Ligue 1 - eight goals in three matchdays. There is not a single player over 24 in their squad.

    Head-to-Head

📊 This fixture has been going one way for a while: Strasbourg have failed to win in 7 of their last 8 Ligue 1 matches against Monaco. At home, though, the Alsatians make life difficult for Monaco on a regular basis - in February they knocked Monaco out of the Coupe de France, and in May they closed out the season with a 5-4 thriller. Heavy defeats are rare here: Strasbourg have lost by more than one goal in only 2 of the last 17 head-to-head meetings. After the break, however, they almost always concede in this fixture - in 8 of the last 9 head-to-head matches.

    Strasbourg Alsace Team Overview

Hugo Oliveira arrived in the summer from Famalicão, where he had worked with one of the youngest squads in Portugal, and here he inherited much the same. Things moved quickly from there: Strasbourg beat Lens at home, then dismantled Troyes away the following week. Four players got on the scoresheet that day, with Samuel Amo-Ameyo grabbing a brace off the bench, while Diogo Sousa earned a place in L'Équipe's team of the week with his first goal for the club. Oliveira was named the same week's best manager by the same publication.

The other side of the picture is equally hard to miss. Strasbourg have now gone 12 matches in a row without a clean sheet, and at home that run stretches to six. That is partly why they sit sixth in the table. The reason is not hard to see: the defensive line has been rebuilt from scratch - Antwi, on loan from Chelsea, and Mitchell, signed from Sturm, are the centre-back pairing, while Filip Jørgensen, the team's best player in the first two rounds, has taken over in goal following Penders' departure.

    Monaco Team Overview

Filipe Luís is in his first season at Monaco: the Brazilian arrived from Flamengo with a Copa Libertadores title and a Brazilian championship on his CV. He has made a perfect start - five official matches, five wins. Monaco beat Górnik Zabrze in the Conference League knockout phase play-offs on aggregate (7-3), and in the league they have seen off Le Havre, Marseille and the reigning champions on their own ground. Monaco conceded their first Ligue 1 goal in Paris, but they also showed they can come from behind there: the equaliser came from new signing Flávio Nazinho, who arrived to replace Caio Henrique after he left for Ajax, and Stanis Idumbo scored the winner.

Monaco's attack is not prolific, but it has been consistent: in their last 20 matches, they have failed to score just once. Away from home, that run extends to 11 consecutive matches. The output is modest, though - in 11 of their last 12 Ligue 1 matches, Monaco scored no more than two goals. It all rests on Pari Brunner, who has four goals this season. In the table, Monaco sit first, two points clear of four teams tied behind them.

    Latest news

    Strasbourg Alsace

❌ Oliveira gets Samir El-Mourabtit back for the Monaco match: the midfielder has served his two-game suspension. A starting place is not guaranteed, though - the Demba Diop-Diogo Sousa partnership formed in his absence in central midfield, and there is little reason to break it up after Troyes. The injury list is lengthy: Joaquin Panichelli is expected to be out until around November as he recovers from a cruciate ligament rupture, Marcial Godo is also unavailable, Maxi Oedele is doubtful, and David Washington, signed from Chelsea, has yet to make a matchday squad since joining. The club's summer rebuild was sweeping: 19 players in, 23 out, leaving a squad of 30 with an average age of 21.

    Monaco

❓ The biggest news of the week at Monaco was something that didn't happen. Alexandre Golovin had been linked with Zenit and Spartak, but the midfielder stayed at Monaco - and reportedly never even held talks about leaving. Something similar happened with two others: Lamine Camara's move to Chelsea and Folarin Balogun's transfer to Everton both fell through at the deadline. Camara went straight into the starting XI against PSG without any fuss, but Balogun is not yet match-ready - the American has a knee complaint and is working individually. Ansu Fati is also recovering from a calf injury, while Mohammed Salisu and Takumo Minamino are both coming back from serious knee injuries, with the club expecting the latter two back in September.

    Predicted Lineups

📋 Predicted starting XI for Strasbourg: Jørgensen - Antwi, Mitchell, Doukouré, Oso - Diop, Sousa - Yassine, Reyna, Nanasi - Ortega.

📋 Predicted starting XI for Monaco: Hradecky - Vanderson, Sané, Dyer, Nazinho - Coulibaly, Camara, Zakaria, Idumbo - Brunner, Abline.

    ⚽️ Goals Prediction

Both teams have scored in Strasbourg's matches - that was the case in 7 of their last 8 Ligue 1 games. Monaco away from home show exactly the same pattern: both teams scored in 10 of their last 11 away matches. Strasbourg also manage it against Monaco specifically - at home, they have scored against Monaco in 9 of their last 10 head-to-head meetings. The pick is Both Teams to Score - Yes at 1.50*.

    🚩 Corner Prediction

Strasbourg are not a team that generates many corners - across their last 10 official matches they have averaged 3.8 corners per game. At home, they have won fewer than six in 8 of their last 9 matches, and in head-to-head meetings with Monaco that figure holds in 12 of the last 13. Monaco will almost certainly dominate possession on Saturday, and with it the corners. The bet is Strasbourg Team Total Corners - Under 5.5.

    🟨 Yellow Card Prediction

Eric Wattellier will officiate this match, and he’s no stranger to these sides-this will be the fifth time the French referee takes charge of a Strasbourg vs Monaco clash since 2018. Over their last 10 home fixtures, Strasbourg’s matches have averaged 3.7 yellow cards, while Monaco’s games have seen an average of 3.6. Wattellier himself is known for not shying away from bookings, handing out an average of 3.05 yellows per game over his last 10 matches, and 3.00 across his last 100. Given these numbers, a total over 2.5 yellow cards looks like a well-founded prediction.

*Odds are approximate and may vary depending on the bookmaker.

    ⭐️ Editorial Prediction

It comes down to simple arithmetic. High-scoring matches are the norm when Strasbourg are involved: in 10 of their last 11 Ligue 1 games, the two sides combined for at least three goals. At home, the hosts have also conceded before half-time in four consecutive Ligue 1 matches, so the first goal rarely takes long to arrive. Away from home, the visitors show the same pattern - over 2.5 goals in 10 of their last 11 matches.

A cautious scenario is possible too: Monaco have conceded just one goal over the last three matchdays. But their opponents were different. Le Havre, Marseille and PSG defend differently from a side that has let in seven goals over the same period. We are not expecting the evening to end with just one or two goals. The bet is Total Goals - Over 2.5. Predicted score: 1-2.
