Zenit vs Rodina Prediction 9 August 2026
🔊 Only once in the last four seasons have Zenit started with three consecutive wins. In the current RPL campaign, the team have every chance to repeat the achievement from the 2024/25 season, when they beat Krylya Sovetov, Rubin and Rostov at the start. Can Rodina stop the reigning champions after their surprise Russian Cup win over Rubin? We'll have the answer after the final whistle at Gazprom Arena.
Head-to-Head
📊 The two teams have never met before. This will be the first match in the history of Zenit and Rodina.
Head-to-head statistics Zenit - Rodina

Zenit Saint Petersburg Team Overview
Zenit started the RPL season with two convincing wins. First they beat Akron (5:0) - Alexander Sobolev scored a brace, with John John, Mantuan and Felipe Augusto also on the scoresheet. Then came a trip to Orenburg (3:0), where Maxim Glushenkov was the star, completing his third hat-trick in the RPL. With six points and a goal difference of 8:0, the team leads the RPL and remains the only side yet to concede at the start of the tournament.
After two bright wins in the league, the St. Petersburg side beat Baltika rather modestly in the Russian Cup (1:0). Several players who do not get regular game time in the league started: goalkeeper Bogdan Moskvichev, defenders Vyacheslav Karavaev and Nuraly Alip, midfielders Alexander Yerokhin and Daniil Kondakov. Luis Enrique and Douglas Santos, who had missed the start of the season, played from the beginning and are now ready to feature in the RPL as well.

Rodina Moscow Team Overview
Juan Diaz, who led Rodina into the RPL, is not abandoning his style. The team aims to play aggressively and attack, but so far cannot compete at RPL level. Diaz admitted it is hard to win if you only play for five minutes per match - those were his words after the defeat to Rostov (2:4) in the second round. Before that came a heavy away loss to Spartak (0:3).
In the Russian Cup, Rodina claimed their first win of the season, thrashing Rubin (5:0). Magomedhabi Abdusalamov scored twice, with Andrei Egorichev, Artur Garibyan and Artem Maksimenko each adding one. The win was the biggest in the club's history against RPL sides. However, it is unlikely to be enough to seriously expect a sensation in the upcoming match against the champions.

Rodina Moscow
📝 On August 7, Rodina agreed with Akhmat on a loan deal for forward Bryan Mansilla. Most likely, he will not be ready to start against Zenit.
❓ Artem Sokol missed the match against Rubin - the 24-year-old forward has a hamstring injury sustained in the game against Rostov.
🎙 The club's goalkeeper Sergei Volkov stated that Rodina are not afraid of Zenit and will play to win, despite being a debutant in the league.
🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction
In a couple of Rodina's previous league matches, three yellow cards were shown. The referee's statistics also point towards a low total: the match will be officiated by Igor Kaplenkov. Counting last season, he has 17 games in the RPL and First League - he shows an average of 3.1 bookings per match. We don't expect excessive roughness and are backing total under 3.5 yellow cards at odds of 1.65*.
⚽️ Goals Prediction
Zenit have scored eight goals in two RPL rounds, while Rodina have conceded seven. For the first time in the league, the blue-white-sky blues are playing at home, which will be an additional factor in favour of high scoring. In 6 of their last 7 away matches involving Juan Díaz's side, at least three goals were scored, so it's worth looking at total over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.51*.
🚩 Corners Prediction
Zenit look to control the ball in the final third but rarely convert that dominance into a high number of corners. In two RPL rounds the team took fewer corners than their opponents. In 8 of their last 9 home league matches, the St. Petersburg side have not taken more than seven corners. The bet is Zenit individual total corners under 7.5. The odds on this market are 1.65*.
🚀 Player Statistics Bet
Maxim Glushenkov scored a hat-trick against Orenburg and provided an assist in the match against Akron. There are rumours that he has put contract extension talks on hold and is seeking a pay rise - against that backdrop he has noticeably improved his performances, confirming his high quality. Given his strong motivation, it's worth considering a Glushenkov goal in the first home RPL match at odds of 1.88*.
😱 Risky Bet
0:3, 2:4 and 5:0 - those are the scorelines recorded in this season's matches involving Rodina. The team haven't yet learned to play modestly: it's either a heavy defeat or an equally convincing win. In a match against Zenit at Gazprom Arena, the latter is hard to imagine, and another Rodina thrashing is the more likely outcome. Given the blue-white-sky blues' strong attack (averaging 4 goals per match), a bright, attacking game can be expected. The bet option is total goals over 4.5 at odds of 3.40*.
🎯 Reliable Bet
Zenit have managed to keep a clean sheet so far this season, but chances do arise at the St. Petersburg side's goal. In each of the three matches, at least two shots on target were recorded against the champions. So as a reliable bet we suggest Rodina individual total shots on target over 1.5 at 1.33*. The Muscovites have hit this mark in seven consecutive official matches.
👀 If the Match Doesn't Go to Script
Rodina won in the Russian Cup and got an emotional lift, easing some of the psychological discomfort after two heavy defeats. Against Rostov in the RPL the team scored twice, and in the Cup they put five past them. You could take a risk and assume that Zenit's game doesn't click and the visitors manage to take points from St. Petersburg. The odds on Rodina not losing go through the roof - 6.44*.
*Odds are indicative and may differ across bookmakers.
⭐ Editor's Pick
Rodina's success in the Cup was largely down to Rubin fielding a reserve squad, and the fact that teams can drop points in their opening matches at the group stage. Zenit, meanwhile, look solid at the start of the tournament both in attack and defence: not a single goal conceded in the RPL or the Cup. There are no problems with scoring either - six different players have got on the scoresheet. Rodina will not be able to keep all of the hosts' key players in check, and the champions' class will tell as early as the first half. The bet is Zenit to win with handicap (-2). Predicted score - 4:1.
