Kazakhstan vs Moldova Prediction, H2H Stats & Statistical Bets 2 October 2026
🔊 On 2 October, Kazakhstan and Moldova meet at the Astana Arena. Both sides are at the bottom of their group and are still looking for their first win in the current UEFA Nations League. Under John van 't Schip, Kazakhstan have picked up one point from two away matches, so they will be highly motivated to take all three points in front of their home supporters. Can they do it?
🔁 We will update this prediction as new information about the teams becomes available. Check back just before the match to make sure you don't miss any important changes.
A modest head-to-head history
At official level, the two sides have met just twice, both in 2022 during a League C relegation play-off. Each team won the away leg by the minimum margin, but Kazakhstan prevailed in the penalty shoot-out, winning 5-4.
Head-to-head statistics Kazakhstan - Moldova

Kazakhstan are struggling to find their rhythm in attack
Kazakhstan are desperate for three points. John van 't Schip said as much directly at his press conference. The Dutchman is aware that there has been no sharp improvement in results or the quality of football since his arrival. Despite the Hawks having real chances to take something from both matches, their attacking play left a lot to be desired.
In their opening two fixtures, Kazakhstan did not even manage an xG of one across either match, falling well short in that department against both the Faroe Islands (0.55 vs 1.48) and Slovakia (0.2 vs 0.44). That said, they were considered underdogs on both occasions, whereas now they will be playing in front of their own supporters and should approach the game from a position of strength, with a more attacking approach. That does not guarantee a goal-fest, though.

Moldova have gone nearly two years without a win in official competition
Moldova head into this away fixture with a dismal run of form behind them. They have not won in ten consecutive official matches, with the last victory coming back in November 2024. In the first two rounds of the current Nations League campaign, Moldova, like Kazakhstan, lost to Slovakia (0-2) and drew with the Faroe Islands (1-1). Their only goal came from a set piece.
The main problem for Lilian Popescu's side in the match against the Faroe Islands was finishing. They outperformed their opponents across every statistical category, including shots on target (22-6), hit the woodwork twice, but managed only one goal. Against Slovakia the picture was reversed. At the same time, the match in Prešov was the first of their last seven away games in which the Tricolorii failed to score.

Latest news
Kazakhstan
🚫 The squad situation is not straightforward. Dastan Satpayev, the team's standout player, is still recovering from a thigh injury and was not called up.
❓ Maksim Samorodov, Alibek Kasym and Islam Chesnokov missed previous matches through injury. All three are doubtful.
❌ Islambek Kuat, the key central midfielder, is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Damir Kasabulat is expected to replace him.
🔁 Update - 2 October, 4:40 UTC:
- Bauyrzhan Islamkhan, who missed the match against Slovakia, has fully recovered from his injury and is available for the home match against Moldova. The captain played 73 minutes against the Faroe Islands in the current cycle and contributed an assist. Islamkhan is likely to start in place of Stanislav Basmanov.
Moldova
🚫 Forward Nicolae Rotaru is injured and unavailable.
✔ The positive news is the return of full-back Ioan-Calin Revenco to the squad.
🔁 Update - 2 October, 8:12 UTC:
- Serghei Turcan has left the squad. The winger has joined the Moldova U21 side for their UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifying matches. Turcan came off the bench against Slovakia in the current cycle, playing 16 minutes. His departure is hard to call a significant loss, but it does clearly reduce the coaching staff's options in rotation.
🔁 Update - 2 October, 11:56 UTC:
- Defensive midfielder Cristian Dros has been left out of the squad for the match. He featured in the previous two games and played 24 minutes against Slovakia, but Dros was more of a rotation player, so his absence should not affect the expected starting XI.
Predicted Lineups

🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction
A match between direct rivals who desperately need points promises to be a physical one. Kazakhstan have lost Kuat to suspension, which speaks to the intensity of their previous matches. The statistics back this up: the average total bookings across the last ten matches involving the Hawks is four per game. Moldova will do everything they can to match their opponents in that department. The referee is Marian Barbu, who has shown red cards in 4 of his last 5 matches. You don't want to push your luck with an official like that. Total Yellow Cards - Over 3.5 looks a justified selection.
⚽ Goals Prediction
Kazakhstan have scored just one goal in two matches, as have Moldova. Both sides are struggling in attack. According to van 't Schip, the hosts intend to be more active going forward than in their previous matches. That said, we are inclined to trust the statistics rather than the promises. Total Goals - Under 2.5 at odds of 1.67* looks logical given both teams' problems in the final third. It has come in in 8 of Kazakhstan's last 9 official home matches and in seven consecutive matches for the Moldova national team in the Nations League.
🚩 Corners Prediction
On home turf, Kazakhstan will look to dominate and apply pressure. Moldova, defending with a back five, will not hesitate to put the ball out for a corner. At the same time, the Tricolors themselves see set pieces as a genuine goal-scoring opportunity - even away in Slovakia they won three corners. We therefore expect both sides to combine for Total Corners - Over 8.5 at 1.84*. That line has been cleared in nine consecutive official matches for the Kazakhstan national team.
*Odds are approximate and may vary across different bookmakers.
⭐️ Editorial Prediction
Kazakhstan have significant injury absences but are playing at home and have enormous motivation to make amends for their defeat to Slovakia in front of their own fans. Moldova are on a lengthy winless run, though they showed decent football in the opening rounds, so we are not writing the visitors off. We expect a tight, scrappy contest with few clear chances, where neither side manages to find a winner. Correct score is 1-1. The recommended bet is Total Goals - Under 2.5.
