Vegas vs Buffalo Prediction 5 January 2025
π Will the winning streak of the "knights" be interrupted? Vegas continues to stamp out its routine victories and rarely drops points. The club was already first in the West and may soon regain the top spot in the conference. Buffalo, on the other hand, is struggling to emerge from a deep crisis that hit the club in the first month of winter.
π Head-to-head
Last season, the teams met twice, and the "sabres" left their opponent no chance, decisively winning both times (5:2, 7:2). The most productive player in those encounters was Buffalo forward Casey Mittelstadt, who managed to score a total of three goals and provide an assist. Currently, the hockey player is playing for Colorado.
β« Vegas
Bruce Cassidy's team maintains high standards for themselves and continues to be among the leaders of the Western Conference. In their last eight matches, the "knights" suffered only one setback, failing against Montreal (2:3). However, the sole reason for this minor failure was the actions of goaltender Adin Hill, who occasionally makes mistakes. It's hard to imagine what Vegas could achieve with a quality and stable player at the last line of defense.
π΅ Buffalo
The "sabres" briefly gave fans and experts hope for saving the season. The club won three consecutive games for the first time in a long while and could have aimed for more. However, numerous mistakes on their own half of the ice quickly returned and shattered all plans of Lindy Ruff's team. Specifically, they suffered two consecutive losses to Dallas (2:4) and Buffalo (5:6 OT). The weak performance of the team's goaltender played a significant role, but blaming him alone would be unfair. A little more, and this season could be written off.
π Projected Lineups
Vegas: Hill - Pietrangelo, Hanifin - Stone, Eichel, Olofsson
Buffalo: Luukkonen - Dahlin, Byram - Zucker, Cozens, Thompson
π₯ Goalkeepers
Vegas goaltender Adin Hill continues to make game errors. The Canadian was responsible for the club's first loss in a long time to Montreal. In that match, the goalie managed to save only 86.4% of shots on his goal and understandably missed the next game by decision of the coaching staff.
Buffalo goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, after a fairly decent series of matches where he consistently maintained a 90% save rate, faltered in the game against Colorado, allowing 6 goals on 29 shots. The Finn once again struggled under pressure.
π Editorial Prediction
Most of Buffalo's matches turn out to be extremely high-scoring. The team makes an impressive number of defensive errors and tries to compensate with increased attacking activity. This doesn't always work. Vegas is precisely the kind of club capable of reducing the visitors' potential and "drying up" their efforts. The "knights" prefer to play defensively and minimize any risks. Our key bet is total under 7.5 goals.
