Details
The main thing

🔊 In Stage 2 of the Cologne Major, G2 are set to face off against BIG, the top hope of the German CS:GO scene. huNter-'s squad have been struggling to find their rhythm early in the Major, while BIG once again rely on their trademark structure and relentless drive to win. However, when it comes to raw firepower and individual skill, the “Samurai” hold a massive advantage. We've analyzed both teams’ recent form and put together the ultimate guide for this matchup.

    Head-to-Head

Historically, G2 have always been a tough opponent for BIG, with the “Samurai” claiming over 60% of their head-to-head victories. However, it’s important to note that both teams are now fielding revamped rosters that have yet to face each other. G2 are competing with an international lineup featuring HeavyGod, SunPayus, MATYS, and NertZ, while BIG are led by blameF alongside their long-standing captain tabseN.

    G2 Team Overview

The European mix are in excellent form right now, even though they find themselves in the 2:1 bracket. HeavyGod remains their main weapon, frequently carrying entire series single-handedly and boasting an outstanding individual rating. The riflers’ aggression consistently opens up space across the map, while SunPayus has become much more measured in his decision-making with the AWP. The loss to FUT should serve as a valuable wake-up call for them. G2’s only real issue is that their overconfidence can still cost them a few silly rounds, but in terms of pure firepower, they are head and shoulders above their BIG opponents.

    BIG Team Overview

The Germans arrived at the tournament as solid mid-table contenders, more than capable of troubling any favorite. The addition of blameF has injected the roster with much-needed individual firepower and fresh tactical options. While BIG can hardly be called a model of consistency, they are certainly a gritty side-as evidenced by their remarkable comeback from 0:12 down against NRG. BIG rarely falter in standard situations, but with a lineup built around seasoned veterans, it’s hard to see them as a squad with high long-term potential or as serious contenders for a spot in the next stage. tabseN’s team still have some fight left in them, but facing G2 on level terms will be a daunting challenge.

         Editorial Prediction

G2 are expected to take this series thanks to their superior firepower in head-to-head duels. During the veto, the Samurai will likely remove their problematic Nuke and instead opt for a more comfortable pick like Dust2 or Mirage. If BIG manage to make things scrappy on their own map pick, G2’s tactical depth will be crucial on the second map. Backing G2 to win the opening map looks like a solid option here. After their disappointing loss to FUT, the Samurai need to bounce back and secure a swift advance to the next stage. With HeavyGod and company providing plenty of firepower, G2 should be able to claim a convincing victory. If they stumble on the first map, backing G2 on the second map is worth considering as well. Even if BIG make a strong start with their structured play, G2’s class and deep map pool should ultimately prevail.
