Teams compete within their respective FIBA zones, namely Africa, Americas, Europe, and Asia-Oceania, to earn spots in the World Cup. The country hosting the World Cup automatically qualifies. With the new format introduced from 2019, Asia and Oceania collectively get 7 berths, Africa has 5 berths, the Americas region gets 7 berths, and Europe gets 12 berths, making a total of 32 teams competing in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
