Predictions for the 5th Round of Serie A, September 27-29

09 Feb, 13:35

Como vs Cremonese

Cremonese is pleasantly surprising at the start of the season: in Serie A, the team has not yet lost, although they were knocked out of the Coppa Italia in the first round. However, it's worth mentioning that the quality of play in recent matches raises questions. The match against Parma was particularly telling, where the "gray-reds" were comprehensively outplayed at home in all statistical parameters: 3-15 in shots and 0.11-0.92 in xG. Only successful defensive play allowed them to keep a clean sheet. But away against a more ambitious Como, it will be more challenging to replicate this result.

Match Prediction for Como vs Cremonese: Home Win

Juventus vs Atalanta

The Juventus and Atalanta game is one of the marquee matchups of the round. The "Queen of the Provincials" is still far from stable: the team can steamroll an opponent (3:0 against Torino, 4:1 against Lecce), but can also drop points where they shouldn't – draws with Pisa (1:1) and Parma (1:1) confirm this. Juventus, on the other hand, has started the season strongly: in thrilling matches, the Turin side snatched a victory against Inter (4:3) and a draw against Borussia (4:4), showing fighting spirit. However, they also have their shortcomings – a draw with Verona in the last round (1:1) served as a warning sign, indicating that the "Old Lady" is still far from perfect. In any case, the encounter should be exciting.

Match Prediction for Juventus vs Atalanta: Both Teams to Score

Cagliari vs Inter

Cagliari looks good at the start of the season. Including the Coppa Italia, the "islanders" have played six matches and suffered only one defeat. The setback came during a visit to the reigning champion, where the team lost to Napoli (0:1), conceding the only goal in the 90+5th minute. Otherwise, the team looks solid, which has allowed them to secure a spot in the upper part of the table. Inter, however, does not yet give the impression of a machine capable of winning on class alone. In the last round, the "Nerazzurri" struggled to defeat Sassuolo (2:1) at home, who had just returned from Serie B. Under such circumstances, Cagliari will have a chance to challenge the favorite, and with a bit of luck, even earn points.

Match Prediction for Cagliari vs Inter: Home Win with Handicap (+1.5)

Sassuolo vs Udinese

Sassuolo is not having the best time after returning to the top division. The "black and greens" have managed only one win in four championship rounds, with three losses. Even to secure those three points, they had to exert maximum effort: they narrowly defeated Lazio (1:0) at home, who themselves are going through tough times due to a transfer ban. Udinese, on the other hand, started much more confidently. Including the Coppa Italia, the "little zebras" have secured four wins, one draw, and only one loss. The only serious setback was the last round match against Milan (0:3),where the team made too many defensive errors. Now Udinese will surely try to redeem themselves, and a match against a less prestigious opponent gives them a good chance to do so.

Match Prediction for Sassuolo vs Udinese: The visitors will not lose

Pisa vs Fiorentina

Neither Pisa nor Fiorentina can boast about their results at the start of the championship. After four rounds, the "Nerazzurri" are in 19th place with one point, but their position can be justified by a tough schedule: the team has already played against Atalanta, Roma, and Napoli. All three losses were minimal, and with a bit more luck, the league newcomer could have earned more points. Fiorentina, on the other hand, is in 17th place with two points and leaves a much more disheartening impression. The "Viola" even look weak at home, showing neither stability in attack nor reliability in defense. We wouldn't be surprised if the team slips again and fails to secure three points.

Match Prediction for Pisa vs Fiorentina: The hosts will not lose

Roma vs Verona

Roma is showing phenomenal consistency at the start of the championship: all four of the "Wolves'" matches ended with the same score of 1:0. In three cases, this resulted in victories, and once the team suffered a defeat, but still maintained their signature focus on defensive reliability. Verona has not yet secured a victory, but apart from the game against Lazio (0:4), the team hasn't had any outright failures. In other matches, the "Mastiffs" played cohesively, and last weekend they even managed to take points from the formidable Juventus (1:1). Both teams score little and concede little, so it's logical to assume that the match will be low-scoring.

Match Prediction for Roma vs Verona: Total under 2.5 goals

Lecce vs Bologna

Lecce is clearly struggling at the start of the season. After a victory over Juve Stabia in the Coppa Italia (2:0) and a draw with Genoa in the championship (0:0), the team suffered four consecutive defeats. Last weekend, the "Salentians" failed at home against Cagliari (1:2), and earlier this week, they suffered a heavy defeat to Milan in the Coppa Italia (0:3), which was a serious blow to the team's morale. Bologna is also far from their optimal form. The team predictably loses away and struggles to earn points at home. On September 20, the "Rossoblù" only managed to beat Genoa (2:1) thanks to a penalty in the 90+9th minute. Overall, Bologna's matches are played in a closed style and rarely delight spectators with goals, so the most logical choice seems to be a bet on total under 2.5 goals.

Match Prediction for Lecce vs Bologna: Total under 2.5 goals

Milan vs Napoli

Milan vs Napoli is definitely the main match of round 5 in Serie A. Both teams have started the season strongly and are rightfully among the leaders: the "Rossoneri" are in third place, while the "Partenopei" top the table. Including the Coppa Italia, Milan has played six matches and secured five clean-sheet victories. The only blemish remains the home defeat to Cremonese in the first round (0-1), but that is now well behind them. Last weekend, Milan confidently dealt with Udinese away (3-0), who were in the top 4 before the start of the fourth round. The "Partenopei," on the other hand, have won all four Serie A matches, confirming their status as the main title contender. Their only defeat came in the Champions League, where the team lost away to the formidable Manchester City (0-2). Considering the current form of both teams and their ambitions, the upcoming match promises to deliver spectacular football for the fans.

Match Prediction for Milan vs Napoli: Both Teams to Score

Parma vs Torino

Both teams have had a weak start to the season and find themselves in a tournament stagnation zone. Parma has only gained two points after four rounds and scored just one goal – the worst record in Serie A. The "Crusaders" are in complete despair in attack: even against Cremonese, where they had possession, took 15 shots, and created chances worth almost one expected goal (xG 0.92), the result was a dull 0-0. Torino is also struggling: like Parma, the team has only scored one goal and has suffered two heavy defeats against strong opponents – Inter (0-5) and Atalanta (0-3). With such attacking issues, expecting a thrilling football match between them is clearly not advisable.

Match Prediction for Parma vs Torino: Total Under 2.5 Goals

Genoa vs Lazio

Both teams approached the fifth round in far from the best spirits. Lazio finds itself in a difficult situation due to a transfer ban: the club retained its core squad but couldn't add fresh blood to the lineup. The result is three goalless defeats in four rounds, with only the thrashing of Verona (4-0) being a bright spot, where the "Eagles" delivered one of their best performances in recent years. Genoa is also not pleasing its fans: 2 draws and 2 losses, sitting in 16th place in the table. The most painful was the defeat last weekend against Bologna (1-2), where the "Griffins" conceded a penalty in the 90+9th minute. It's hard to pick a favorite in this matchup, but considering the weak play of both clubs, expecting a high number of goals is clearly not advisable.

Match Prediction for Genoa vs Lazio: Total Under 2.5 Goals
