Champions League 2024/25 Predictions: Quarter-finals: 15/04/2025

09 Feb, 13:35

Barcelona are technically through to the semi-final of the 2024/25 Champions League campaign following their massive win in the first leg. Barca thrashed Borussia Dortmund 4-0 in Spain last week, and the fact that they haven’t lost by a 4-0 margin this season gives every indication that they are heading in the La Liga giants’ direction in the next round of the competition.

Following Aston Villa’s 3-1 defeat to PSG away from home in the first leg, Unai Emery was confident in his post-match interview, saying that the Villans will win the second leg in England. Villa have won seven of their last eight matches across all competitions, and the fact they play much better and more dominantly at Villa Park means we cannot blindly rule out Emery’s comments.

Dortmund may already be out of the UCL, but we cannot entirely say the same about Aston Villa; as we have witnessed over the years, teams come from two goals down to go through to the next round. Manchester United did it against PSG with a depleted squad, so it's reasonable to believe Aston Villa could still advance.

We analysed both matches carefully and came out with the best possible outcomes for them.

Dortmund and Barcelona will exchange goals: Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona

  • Date: 15/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Barcelona will not take their foot off the gas in the second leg, despite the first leg result, but they will find it nearly impossible to shut the hosts out.

The last time both teams met in Germany, Barcelona won 3-2 last year. Dortmund created many chances that could have helped them avoid a defeat, but they finished their chances poorly. Even in the first leg in Spain of this draw, the Bundesliga side had their moments but couldn’t find the net. We doubt they will go two matches in a spin without getting it right in the face of the goalpost. We expect the second leg to be as entertaining as when they met in the league phase.

Borussia Dortmund vs Barcelona prediction: Both teams to score – yes

Aston Villa to get around PSG at Villa Park: Aston Villa vs PSG

  • Date: 15/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Aston Villa have one of the best home records in the Champions League this season, so we can take a stretch on this one and back them to win.

PSG may have won against Liverpool at Anfield in the previous round, but Aston Villa will pose an entirely different threat, and this is why. Villa haven’t lost at home in the Champions League this term, winning five and drawing one, including that famous 1-0 win over Bayern Munich. We have little doubt PSG will win in Birmingham, but we are not overly confident Unai Emery’s side will advance further to the next round – a potential 1-0 win for the Villans.
