    Cienciano Team Overview

Cienciano came through the previous round in convincing fashion, thrashing Botafogo 6-1 at home before losing the second leg 0-1, with the 6-2 aggregate sending them through to the quarter-finals. Even more striking was their home leg against Lanús in the play-offs - a 4-0 win after losing the first match 0-2.

Across those last two home matches in the Copa Sudamericana, Cienciano have scored ten goals. That is particularly relevant ahead of their meeting with Torque, given that the match will be played at an altitude of around 3,360 metres above sea level.

In the Peruvian league, Cienciano's recent form has been less convincing. Going into the last round, they had gone four matches without a win, but on 4 September they ended that run with an emphatic 5-2 away victory over Cajamarca - coming from 0-2 down to turn the match completely around.

Worth highlighting individually is Cristian Sousa. The Brazilian attacking midfielder is one of the team's key creative forces and has already registered five assists in this edition of the tournament. Carlos Garcés remains Cienciano's top scorer in the Copa Sudamericana, with four goals to his name.

    Montevideo City Torque Team Overview

Montevideo City Torque head into the quarter-final in excellent form. The Uruguayan side eliminated Tigre over two legs - winning 1-0 away and 2-1 at home. Salomón Rodríguez was particularly impressive across those two matches, scoring twice in the second leg. He now has five goals in the Copa Sudamericana.

In this edition of the Copa Sudamericana, Torque have won seven of their nine matches, suffering just one defeat. They also won their group, finishing on 13 points. Reaching the quarter-final is already the best international result in the club's history.

The Uruguayans have also been performing well domestically. In the first four rounds of the Clausura, Torque have won all four matches, scoring 11 goals and conceding just three. In their most recent game they beat Cerro Largo 2-1, with the winning goals coming late on.

The key question ahead of the trip to Cusco is altitude acclimatisation. Head coach Marcelo Méndez has specifically noted that sustaining effort at that altitude demands an enormous physical toll. According to him, only a few players in the squad have experience of playing in such conditions. Torque were planning to arrive in Cusco on the day of the match itself, after a brief stop in Lima.

    Latest news

    Cienciano

❌ The main absentee ahead of the first leg of the quarter-final will be Gerson Barreto. The midfielder will miss the match due to suspension after accumulating yellow cards, so the coaching staff will need to reorganise the central midfield area.

    🔁 Update, 10 September, 8:55 UTC:

    • According to Diario Libero, Gonzalo Aguirre will replace the suspended Barreto in central midfield. Barreto had been a key figure in the Peruvian side's midfield, playing more than 60 minutes in each of their four Copa Sudamericana knockout-phase matches. Aguirre, by contrast, played just 23 minutes across those four knockout-phase matches, all of them coming against Botafogo.

    Montevideo City Torque

❌ Goalkeeper Franco Torgnascioli and defender Nahuel Leivas are both missing from Montevideo's squad for the trip to Peru due to injury.

    🟨 Yellow Cards Prediction

This match could turn into a fairly physical affair. Both sides go into challenges hard, and the stakes at the quarter-final stage of the Copa Sudamericana are very high. Cienciano average around 1.8 yellow cards per match in the competition, while Torque's figure is approximately 2.3. Combined, that points to a little over four bookings per game, which makes the 3.5 threshold look achievable. The bet: Total Yellow Cards - Over 3.5.

    ⚽ Goals Prediction

The recent form of both sides suggests at least two goals. Cienciano are particularly dangerous at home: ten goals in their last two home Copa Sudamericana matches is a significant figure. Torque also score regularly and are in excellent form in the Clausura.

That said, the high intensity and the altitude factor could lead to a noticeable drop in tempo in the second half. For that reason, Total Goals - Over 2 looks the more sensible option rather than more aggressive alternatives. The odds are 1.39*.

    🚩 Corner Kick Prediction

Playing at home, Cienciano will likely look to take control from the first minute and get the ball into the opposition box more frequently. Torque will probably rely on quick transitions and counter-attacks, which can also generate corners. Given the nature of the first match and the attacking style of both sides, a fairly active game on the flanks can be expected. Bet: Total Corners - Over 8.5 at 1.69*.

*Odds are indicative and may vary across different bookmakers.

    ⭐ Editorial Prediction

Cienciano have a significant advantage thanks to home ground and the extreme altitude of Cusco, which poses a serious challenge for the visitors. Their recent Copa Sudamericana home performances back this up: 4-0 against Lanús and 6-1 against Botafogo. That said, Montevideo City Torque should not be underestimated - the Uruguayans have won seven of their nine matches in the competition and are in excellent form.

We expect a competitive match in which Cienciano, aided by home conditions and greater familiarity with playing at altitude, should have the edge. Torque are capable of causing problems and will probably prevent the hosts from winning by a large margin. Main bet: Cienciano to win. Predicted score: 2-1
