Montpellier Handball’s story begins in 1982, when the club was founded under the name Cosmos Montpellier and started out as a modest local project. Within just a decade, it climbed into France’s top division and soon established itself as a dominant force in domestic handball. The club became especially influential in the late 1990s and 2000s, building a reputation for winning titles and developing world-class talent.
Montpellier remains the only French club to have won the EHF Champions League twice, a rare achievement that highlights its impact on European handball. Known for combining a strong youth system with high-level competition, the team has consistently contributed players to the French national squad while maintaining its status as one of the country’s most successful and historically significant clubs.
