Cameroon's women's national handball team has reached five African Championship finals and competed at four World Championships. The team represents Cameroon in international handball and has a long history of matches against Africa's strongest national sides. Angola has been a frequent opponent, particularly in the finals of the continental championship. Cameroon finished second behind Angola in both 2021 and 2022, after several successful matches earlier in those tournaments.
The 2021 African Championship was especially memorable because Cameroon hosted the competition in its capital, Yaoundé. The home team defeated Nigeria in the quarterfinals and Congo in the semifinals to reach the final. Cameroon returned to the final in 2022, this time at the continental tournament in Dakar, Senegal. Several results stand out in the team's international history:
- African Championship: Five silver medals in 1979, 1987, 2004, 2021 and 2022.
- World Championship: Four appearances in 2005, 2017, 2021 and 2023, with twentieth place achieved in 2017.
- African Games: Cameroon earned a silver medal at the women's handball tournament in 2019.
The 2023 World Championship brought another important achievement when Cameroon reached the main round for the first time. A victory against Paraguay secured its progress from the preliminary group, ahead of further matches against stronger opponents. The team eventually finished twenty-fourth, but its place in the main round marked a new milestone.
Cameroon's squad has included goalkeeper Isabelle Mben Bediang and centre back Karichma Ekoh, who played club handball abroad. Other notable players include Laeticia Ateba, who scored 32 goals during the 2023 World Championship.
