UEFA Europa League Predictions: Round of 16 - 13/03/2025

09 Feb, 13:35

Manchester United need to avoid a defeat at Old Trafford against Real Sociedad if they fancy going through to the quarterfinal of the Europa League. The Red Devils played out a 1-1 draw in Spain in the first leg, and they host the second leg as the favourites. A lot would be expected from the Premier League outfit.

Athletic Bilbao must win by at least a two-goal margin in the second leg in Spain to eliminate AS Roma or by a one-goal margin to drag the tie to extra time, having lost the first leg 2-1 in Italy.

Fenerbahce have a very huge mountain to climb in Scotland, following a shocking 3-1 home defeat to Rangers.

This week’s Europa League Round of 16 second-leg predictions were based on current form, data, and expert knowledge.

UEFA Europa League Round of 16 predictions: 13/03/2025

Olympiacos to impress their fans: Olympiacos vs Bodo/Glimt

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:45
  • Olympiacos may have lost the first leg by a big margin, but their home form is good enough for their fans to anticipate a win over Bodo/Glimt.

The Greek side avoided a defeat in their four Europa League home matches in the league phase, and with their urgent need for a win after the horror in Norway, there’s a huge chance the hosts will win the upcoming game. Olympiacos won two and drew two of their last four EL games, while Bodo/Glimt secured inconsistent results as visitors.

Olympiacos vs Bodo/Glimt prediction: Home team to win

Athletic Bilbao to turn the tide around: Athletic Bilbao vs AS Roma

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:45
  • Athletic Bilbao are so dominant at home that they didn’t drop a single point in four matches during the league phase, and we expect them to maintain their form against Roma.

Athletic Bilbao played four home matches during the Europa League League Phase and won all four games. AS Roma are not as strong in away matches, and we think the La Liga team will win the upcoming game and drag the tie to extra time.

Athletic Bilbao vs AS Roma prediction: Home team to win

Lazio to finish off the job in Italy: Lazio vs Viktoria Plzen

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:45
  • Lazio won the first leg away from home with nine men, so what are the chances they don’t finish it off in Italy?

Despite receiving two red cards late in the game, Lazio still went on to win the tie 2-1. They are stronger at home, and having impressed in front of their fans in this competition this term, there’s no reason not to anticipate another win for the Serie A side in Italy.

Lazio vs Viktoria Plzen prediction: Home team to win

Eintracht Frankfurt and Ajax to exchange goals: Eintracht Frankfurt vs Ajax

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:45
  • Goals are usually scored in matches involving either team, and the upcoming game wouldn’t end differently.

Both Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt scored goals in the first leg, and we anticipate that the second leg will be equally captivating as the first. Both teams do not struggle in the final third, and with the tie still open for both clubs to grab, getting the first goal will be crucial.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Ajax prediction: Both teams to score - yes

Lyon to finish the job off in France: Lyon vs FCSB

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Lyon are in charge of the draw following their comfortable win in the first leg, so now they will want to finish off the job in the return leg.

Lyon are regarded as one of the favourites to win the Europa League title, and they showed their class in the first leg against FCSB. They won the first leg 3-1, and because they hardly put in a poor shift in front of their fans in this competition, we expect the Ligue 1 side to finish the job off with a win.

Lyon vs FCSB prediction: Home team to win

Tottenham and AZ Alkmaar to entertain fans with goals: Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Only one goal was scored in the first leg, but matches involving either team usually produce at least three goals. The upcoming game may be twice as eventful as the first.

Tottenham need two goals to turn the tide around in England, but because they have issues at the back, there’s a chance the upcoming game will produce 3+ goals.

Tottenham vs AZ Alkmaar prediction: Over 2.5 goals

Rangers and Fenerbahce to exchange goals: Rangers vs Fenerbahce

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Rangers and Fenerbahce exchanged goals in the first leg, and we expect the upcoming game to be as exciting.

Rangers and Fenerbahce scored against each other in the first leg, and with Jose Mourinho’s side behind, the upcoming game will be interesting to watch. The Turkish side need to win by a three-goal margin to turn the game around or by a two-goal margin to drag the tie to extra time, and Rangers wouldn’t fold their hands and watch Mourinho’s men get the spotlight.

Rangers vs Fenerbahce prediction: Both teams to score - yes

Manchester United to scale through to the next round: Manchester United vs Real Sociedad

  • Date: 13/03/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Manchester United have a good record against Real Sociedad, and the first leg showed United can be more dangerous at home.

Man United were unlucky in the first leg against Real Sociedad and lost their narrow lead courtesy of a second-half penalty. United have only lost once in seven attempts against the La Liga side, and that was as a result of a controversial penalty. The Red Devils play better at home, and they may be without some of their key players, but expecting United to come out on top against a team like Real Sociedad isn’t a stretch.

Manchester United vs Real Sociedad prediction: Home team to win
