La Liga predictions: Round 32: 18/04-21/04

09 Feb, 13:35

Real Madrid will continue their hunt for the La Liga title when they welcome Athletic Bilbao to Madrid this weekend. Real showed character last week against Alaves when they played the majority of the game with a man down and still went on to protect their first half 1-0 lead. Now, they have to continue their winning momentum against Athletic Bilbao, but this encounter will be tough.

Barcelona only recorded their first defeat in 2025 on Tuesday night when they lost 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League. However, they remain unbeaten in domestic competition, and they tend to leave things that way when they host struggling Celta Vigo this weekend.

We analysed this round's La Liga fixtures and came up with the best possible outcomes.

La Liga predictions: Round 32: 18/04-21/04

Espanyol and Getafe will struggle in the final third: Espanyol vs Getafe

  • Date: 18/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Goals are usually scarce in matches involving both teams, and the upcoming game will not be any different.

Espanyol and Getafe have crossed paths many times in this competition, so we have a clue or two about these meetings. We looked at both teams’ last ten meetings at RCDE Stadium and found out that all ten encounters ended with fewer than three goals. Espanyol’s recent games may have produced goals, but they find their goalscoring boots when they host Getafe. So we can anticipate fewer than three goals in Barcelona on Friday.

Espanyol vs Getafe prediction: Total goals – under 2.5

Corners to come in excess: Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia

  • Date: 19/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 14:00 CET
  • Both teams may not appear as two of the brightest attacking sides, but many corners are usually taken in matches involving them.

Rayo Vallecano and Valencia have shared the pitch several times in La Liga, and their last five meetings serve as early reminders of the nature of these games. Neither team dominated in their last five league meetings, which led us to check other parameters where both teams effortlessly displayed their strengths. Both teams combined served 60 corners in their last five matches, 12 corners per game on average. This game may not promise many goals, but their previous meetings suggest the upcoming game will be rich in corners, and expecting at least nine corners shouldn’t be a stretch.

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia prediction: Total corners – over 8.5

Barcelona and Celta Vigo will entertain fans with many goals: Barcelona vs Celta Vigo

  • Date: 19/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 16:15 CET
  • Both teams usually entertain fans with high-attacking football, and this weekend’s meeting in Catalonia promises to be as exciting as their last few meetings.

Barcelona and Celta Vigo usually advertise their attacking prowess when they cross paths in this competition, and there’s a big chance the same will be repeated this weekend. Barca played on Tuesday night against Dortmund and lost 3-1, and we doubt they will have enough energy to run for 90 minutes against Celta, who last played a game last weekend. Both teams scored in four of their last five meetings, and when we stretched to their last eight meetings, both clubs exchanged goals in seven encounters. This game will be entertaining, so we are anticipating goals from both teams and, at the same time, a win for the hosts.

Barcelona vs Celta Vigo prediction: Home team to win and both teams to score – yes

Mallorca and Leganes will struggle in the final third: Mallorca vs Leganes

  • Date: 19/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:30 CET
  • Both teams usually lack ideas in the attacking half when they cross paths, and because Leganes remain a difficult side to score goals against, this encounter will be cagey.

Leganes and Mallorca haven’t met in La Liga many times due to their participation in lower divisions. However, their few encounters in the top flight suggest how the upcoming game may end. The three times both teams met ended in under 2.5 goals, with two encounters producing one goal each. We can choose to bet on under 2.5 goals, but let’s take a stretch by expecting less than two goals from the upcoming game, as two of their last three meetings ended in this manner.

Mallorca vs Leganes prediction: Total goals – under 1.5

Throw-ins will be in excess: Las Palmas vs Atletico Madrid

  • Date: 19/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Atletico Madrid and Las Palmas struggle to keep the ball in play when they meet, and with the visitors keen on challenging for the title again, we can anticipate some nervy moments from them.

Las Palmas and Atletico Madrid are two of the La Liga teams that don’t play possession football. They put the ball out of play regularly, which resulted in many throw-ins in their last few meetings. We looked at their five encounters in La Liga and found out that 201 throw-ins were served by both teams, and the average per game was 40.2. We can anticipate at least 35 throw-ins from the upcoming game.

Las Palmas vs Atletico Madrid prediction: Total throw-ins – over 34.5

Both teams will win many corners: Real Valladolid vs Osasuna

  • Date: 20/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 14:00 CET
  • Both teams usually serve many corners when they meet, and we cannot rule out the same from happening in the return leg.

The last time Osasuna and Real Valladolid met in La Liga, 14 corner kicks were played by both teams. They don’t usually create goalscoring chances through the middle, and the best way for both clubs to create their moments, especially the hosts, is through set-pieces. It didn’t come as a shock when we found out that 48 corners were served by both teams in their last five matches. On average, both teams served 9.6 corners per game, so we can count on them to produce at least nine this weekend, and that’s mainly because the hosts are expected to be relegated this term, while the visitors have avoided relegation already.

Real Valladolid vs Osasuna prediction: Total corners – over 8.5

The referee will be called into action on many occasions: Villarreal vs Real Sociedad

  • Date: 20/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 16:15 CET
  • Both teams make many reckless tackles when they meet, and we expect this weekend’s matchup to be fierce for both top-six contenders.

Villarreal and Real Sociedad meetings always keep the referees on their toes, as both teams regularly make many rash tackles. The last time they met last year, 23 fouls were committed, and six yellow cards were shown to both teams. On average, both teams recorded 6.4 yellow cards per La Liga game, and because they are in contention for a place in the top six, we expect this encounter to be fierce. The total warnings may not be as many, but expecting at least five shouldn’t be a stretch.

Villarreal vs Real Sociedad prediction: Total yellow cards – over 4.5

Both teams will entertain fans with goals: Sevilla vs Alaves

  • Date: 20/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:30 CET
  • At one glance, you’d guess this game will lack goals, but it is entirely the opposite, thanks to their previous encounters.

Sevilla and Alaves find it easy to get on the score sheet, and despite their inconsistency this term, their encounters are usually a good sight for the crowd. At least three goals were scored in four of their last five matches, and there’s no need to think otherwise in the upcoming game. Both teams are in the relegation battle, so we expect them to fight for the points. A draw will be important, but matches like this usually end with goals as a result of errors at the back due to being overly cautious.

Sevilla vs Alaves prediction: Total goals – over 2.5

Real Madrid to continue their home dominance: Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao

  • Date: 20/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Real Madrid enjoy coming up against this opponent, and this weekend is another chance for the Whites to display their dominance.

Athletic Bilbao are pushing for the Champions League spots, but their quest may take a slight turn when they take on Real Madrid this weekend. Bilbao will be in action on Thursday night in the Europa League, and coupled with their poor record against Real at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium (19 matches without a win), we doubt the visitors have much under their sleeves for the Madrid stands. We expect the hosts to take all three points and maintain their pressure on Barcelona.

Real Madrid vs Athletic Bilbao prediction: Home team to win

Girona and Real Betis will exchange goals: Girona vs Real Betis

  • Date: 21/04/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00 CET
  • Both teams effortlessly find the net when they cross paths, and the upcoming game presents yet another opportunity for both clubs to showcase their attacking prowess.

Girona and Real Betis have met only nine times in the top flight, and that’s due to the hosts’ participation in the lower division. However, their last few meetings reveal what to expect on Monday night. Both teams scored against each other in seven of their last nine La Liga meetings, and in their last five meetings, they failed to keep a clean sheet. Expecting goals from both teams on Monday isn’t a long wait.

Girona vs Real Betis prediction: Both teams to score – yes
