La Liga 2024/25 predictions: Gameweek 22: 31/01 - 03/02

09 Feb, 13:35

After last weekend's setback against Villarreal, Atletico Madrid will aim to resume their winning ways when they host Mallorca on Sunday. Their recent struggle leaves them behind Real Madrid at the top of the standings.

After their 7-1 demolition of Valencia in the previous round, Barcelona can extend their winning streak to two games when they host Alaves, while Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis will test their strength on Sunday evening.

This week’s La Liga 2024/25 gameweek 22 predictions: 31/01/2025 - 02/02/2025

Rayo Vallecano to avoid a defeat: Leganes vs Rayo Vallecano

  • Date: 31/01/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Both teams have struggled in recent weeks, but Rayo Vallecano should come away without a loss.

Leganes secured a big win over Atletico Madrid some weeks ago and held Athletic Bilbao to a goalless draw last time out. They are fighting against relegation and will lean on any available point they can find. Rayo Vallecano have avoided a defeat in their last five league games at least and are pushing for a place in the top six. They may struggle to unlock the hosts’ defense, but they are unlikely to succumb to a defeat.

Leganes vs Rayo Vallecano prediction: Away team to win or draw

Getafe and Sevilla to struggle in the final third: Getafe vs Sevilla

  • Date: 01/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 14:00
  • Matches involving Getafe rarely produce many goals, and it is unlikely that the upcoming game will end differently.

Getafe averaged 1.61 goals per game in 21 La Liga matches, while Sevilla averaged 2.57 goals per game in 22 league games. The hosts averaged less than 2.5 goals per game, and because the visitors barely averaged over 2.5 goals, we can anticipate less than three goals from the upcoming game.

Getafe vs Sevilla prediction: Under 2.5 goals

Villarreal to get back to winning ways: Villarreal vs Real Valladolid

  • Date: 01/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 16:15
  • Real Valladolid are in dire form and sit at the bottom of the standings as a result. They perform poorly away from home and are likely to struggle against Villarreal.

Villarreal held Atletico Madrid to a 1-1 draw away and will likely bounce back to winning ways against struggling Real Valladolid, who are bound to return to the Segunda Division. The Yellow Submarines have been decent this season and have a chance to finish in the top six, unlike the visitors with a series of defeats.

Villarreal vs Real Valladolid prediction: Home to win

Atletico Madrid to bounce back to winning ways: Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca

  • Date: 01/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:30
  • Atletico Madrid may have gone winless in their last two league games, but they are likely to come out on top against struggling Mallorca.

Atletico Madrid dropped points in their last two games after a defeat to Leganes and a draw with Villarreal. However, they rarely drop points at home back to back, and with Mallorca’s inconsistent and blunt upfront, Diego Simeone’s men may secure a tight win and get back to winning style.

Atletico Madrid vs Mallorca prediction: Home team to win

Real Madrid to continue their winning form: Espanyol vs Real Madrid

  • Date: 01/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Espanyol are fighting against relegation, thanks to their poor form, and there are doubts they can put in a good shift against the league leaders.

Real Madrid won their last four league matches and have only lost once in the competition this season. They sit at the top of the standings for a reason, and an out-of-form team like Espanyol cannot stop them from taking all three points.

Espanyol vs Real Madrid prediction: Away team to win

Barcelona to extend their winning run: Barcelona vs Alaves

  • Date: 02/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 14:00
  • Alaves are struggling against relegation, and they are unlikely to make a turn this weekend.

Barcelona ended their winless run of four matches when they thrashed Valencia 7-1 at home last weekend. They host another struggling relegation-threatened side, Alaves, and we can only anticipate another comfortable victory.

Barcelona vs Alaves prediction: Home team to win

Valencia and Celta Vigo to struggle in the attacking half: Valencia vs Celta Vigo

  • Date: 02/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 16:15
  • Celta Vigo may find it easy to score, but Valencia will cage the game.

Valencia have struggled to score goals this term and will likely prevent Celta Vigo from scoring for fun. Both teams hardly score more than two goals per game, which suggests this encounter will lack goals. The hosts’ attack isn’t among the best, and their defense is somewhat rigid against teams outside the top six at least.

Valencia vs Celta Vigo prediction: Under 2.5 goals

Osasuna and Real Sociedad to lack goals: Osasuna vs Real Sociedad

  • Date: 02/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 18:30
  • Matches involving Real Sociedad usually end with less than three goals, and we think the upcoming game may end similarly.

Real Sociedad may have lost 3-0 in the last game against Getafe, but it’s relatively rare that matches involving them end with over 2.5 goals. Because Osasuna also don’t concede many goals, we anticipate less than three goals from this game.

Osasuna vs Real Sociedad prediction: Under 2.5 goals

Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis to exchange goals in Seville: Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao

  • Date: 02/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Athletic Bilbao are in decent form, but they struggle to keep a clean sheet against Betis.

Real Betis may have endured mixed reactions, but when they come up against Athletic Bilbao, they find it easy to get on the score sheet. Both teams scored in three of their last four meetings, and there’s a chance the same may happen in the upcoming game.

Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao prediction: Both teams to score - yes

Girona and Las Palmas to exchange goals: Girona vs Las Palmas

  • Date: 03/02/2025
  • Kick-off: 21:00
  • Girona have struggled defensively and may struggle against Las Palmas.

Girona will participate in midweek in the Champions League and are not expected to be in full energy against Las Palmas. The Yellow Submarines don’t struggle to score goals, and because the hosts have struggled defensively, there’s a chance that both teams may exchange goals.

Girona vs Las Palmas prediction: Both teams to score - yes
